New 2011 Tesla Model S video

The Tesla Roadster is one of the most high-profile electric cars, pointing to a future when lithium-ion battery technology and incredible acceleration make electric automotive technology more desirable than petrol cars.

Tesla is also readying a new car called the Model S, which will reportedly seat seven people, and includes a 17inch touchscreen dash control.

this car looks so awesome!!! It's funny how tesla is so much further ahead of the game than all the major car companies.

What's truly amazing is that Model S will only cost $50k USD (after $7,500 federal tax credit)... I say "only" because the roadster models are $110-120k each.

Some acceleration numbers (0-60 mph):

Standard Roadster Model: 3.9 seconds
Sport Roadster Model: 3.7 seconds
Model S: 5.6 seconds

Porsche Panamera S ($100k+): 5.2 seconds
Aston Martin Rapdide ($220k+): 4.7 seconds

So basically, Model S is a luxury sedan meant to compete with the offerings from BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar etc., but the of course the party piece is that, according to Tesla marketing, it will cost only $4 dollars to fully recharge.

This is one helluva deal.
