Bmw cuts production in order to survive the financial crisis
Until the end of 2009, BMW workers in German factories will continue to work shortened hours. A BMW Germany spokesman confirmed further that 17,000 workers would be affected. Scrappage schemes aiming to lessen the effects of the financial slowdown have not helped much in the face of diminished new car sales.

Workers in the Munich, Dingolfing, Berlin and Landshut plants will work three of the four weeks in August. It is reported that hours for the staff will again be cut for the rest of the year.

Sense, that makes none, starsearch.
If you look at thier certified pre owned numbers, that is where people are buying their BMW's. Instead of ponying up the cash, they can get a 2 year old BMW with an extended warranty and low interest rates. finally people are big a little moer smart with their money. I noticed a lot of people seem to be buying their cars off of lease as well. That hurts the new car sales.
It makes sense for them to cut production and keep the supply low to not hurt residuals to make them available for lease.
