First Street/Track Images: BMW X6M Flaunts Its Macho Prowess In First Tests
Agent 001 was back on the road to test one of the most sexy and exciting vehicles of 2009, the BMW X6M.
It's always exciting to drive any 'M' badged BMW but this one has a special exclusivity.
It's the first truck that drives remarkably similar to the legendary M5.
Drive it on the track and the only real difference you'll notice is having to hit the brakes just a little earlier than it's sedan counterpart.
When you buy an X6M, you have a much rarer animal with an even hotter looking body.
Then throw in more utility/usability/AWD/feeling of invincibility and you really have a near exotic SUV.
Take a look at our photo gallery to get a closer look and keep tuned for more coverage from 001, live at the BMW USA factory tomorrow.

Hater. Your name is program, huh?
BMW has electric cars, MINI´s to be precise, today, available and running, but why should I try to enlighten you? Your bias is so big, that you probalby can´t even commit the obvious - BMW is top of the range, has been, and always will be. Ignorant child, keep on dreaming about starships.

Saying BMW is out of touch with current trends is one thing. One thing I kind of agree with. But saying they are behind technologically/mechanically? That's plain heresy.
Few car enthusiasts will disagree that BMW's have always been nothing short of technoligical wonders. Their engines are world-renowned and although they don't get everything right on the inside (idrive), they are usually a source of innovation that ends up being replicated by other brands (COMAND, MMI, etc). You really think cars like the AMG C63, Cadillac CTS-V, or the Lexus IS-F would even exist if it weren't for the 3.0 CSL (and later M3, M5) being introduced in 1968?
I may not agree with the direction BMW is going in, but I can't help but stand in awe at some of their creations.

Nice car if you are a short little man 5'9'' or so.
No leg room in those cars.

I would like the grill better if it flowed in to the bumper instead of looking like someone just bolted on a brush guard.

well, better performance for $35,000 less seems like a really smart move. it outperforms the cayenne turbo S which STARTS at $125,000 plus options.

"Agent 001 was back on the road to test one of the most sexy and exciting vehicles of 2009, the BMW X6M."
I realize agents have a skewed opinion of BMWs, heck most people do to a degree. But an M car with ground clearance and some sort of hatch design I hardly put in the book of one of the sexiest and most exciting. I am personally more excited about the new E-class Benz and Ford Taurus comeback.
Not to mention you NEED the rear camera thing in order to see anything since the blind spot on this car is on par with a tractor trailer.
PS I've seen it in red, black and white so far on the highways. It just looks bloated for some reason. It is an X5 with the back end hacked a bit.

an engineering marvel. people can rant on about why bmw built it, the simple answer: because THEY CAN. and the same people who would buy a cayenne turbo S can get this for $35,000 less and it outperforms the cayenne. so it's a relative bargain too!

Here in Middle East, X6 is getting very popular, people here are loving it especially it's unique design and i also agree it's starting to grow on me.
My brother is driving xdrive50i nowadays and i love the drive, it's very powerful, Horsepower difference between it and X5 V8 is less but when you drive both, X6 is a lot quicker and feels lot more powerful and also love the exhaust sound. So i can imagine what X6M with 550BHP would be like.

I've seen it in person. It's a stunning vehicle. Haven't had the pleasure to drive it, but I have driven the 50i model and that is great, I can only imagine an M varient. The 50i model exhaust sound is great and the handling is very car like, I would say you'd be hard pressed to find a more sporty SUV (or SAV) out there. Only gripe about it is kind of defeats the SUV point in the first place, it's a 4 seater and there is barely any cargo room. This is sexier, but given the choice I'll take the X5 M.
