Porsche Panamera Turbo is Nurburgring’s fastest four-door production car
The Nurburgring racetrack has a new record for the fastest four-door production car: the Porsche Panamera Turbo. The 12.9 mile circuit in Germany’s Eifel Mountains was completed in 7 mins., 56 secs., which is three seconds faster than last year’s Cadillac CTS-V.

Powering the Panamera is a 4.8-liter V8 which produces 493bhp and 517lb ft of torque. Porsche and Nissan’s 911 GT3 have been fiercely competing with each other for the coveted fastest time record at the ‘Ring. Nissan has claimed a time of 7 mins., 26.4 secs., which Porsche disputes. Nissan has since released a video to prove the lap time.

The next generation M5 should bury this thing alive.

B7, where on earth did you get 7:58 for the RS4? Its a well known fact that officially, the CTS V's ring time was the fastest production 4 dr. sedan time ever. Hell, the M3 is faster than a RS4...

If BMW continue with the current path as with the X6M or X5M or even the M3....I doubt that...also, there is no surprise here...
Next M5 Will have to use a lot y panels of CF to improve the weight/power relation and remove a lot of gadgets from the accessories..that means tha you'll have a high performance car without luxury inside...As always...no fog lights to save weight, quetionable security due light weight body and chasis, Yes it is posible to do better time than the Panamera...but if the price to pay is a bare car...I'm not willing to buy it..cause I do not live on a track...
The Panamera ir horrible outside, almost as horrible as the 5GT, but both cars, inside, are beautiful...and I'm 100% sure, the Panamera is a great car..even if I do not like it.

well based on the fact that the X6M, is faster than the turbo S, and the X6 nearly 3 tons handles and performs the way it does saids alot about BMW. The fact the X6 makes little sense is neither here nor there, if they can do that much with a car so compromised good luck at beating the next M5....

Makes no sense.Whats wrong with the X6 M and X5 M...those cars along with the E92 are one of the best,if not the best in their class.The X6 M as stated,beats the turbo S in numerous tests. The E92 has been tested against the RS4,C63 and IS-F and has won most of the test.I personally dont see the M5 as a competitor for the Panamera.The M5 competes with the E63,CTS-V...etc. The Panamera competes with the Rapide, and Lambos upcoming sedan (hopefully). As for the M5 needing no foglights and huge amounts of carbon fiber to beat the Panamera...looooooool...Yes it can be lighter.Theres better ways to do that such as in the frame,suspension and drivetrain. I'm not getting at you....I just disagree.

on a side note...why does everyone care how much legroom it has in the back and how much luxary it has. Assuming someone here buys the car,are you really going to have it packed with people,or take the family on a trip to disneyland in it? I know if i got this car it would be for 3 reasons. Performance,fun factor,sex appeal :)

Sorry, that car (Panamera) is not even near of 7 series. I am 6.3 and I already know that I won't be able to use the rear seat of the Panamera. Beside that, there are tons of gadgets in the Bimmer that are not located in the Panamera....that's why the M5 is a better Match, cause it will be performance orinted....Here is just matter of what do you prefer. I like bimmers but what I do not like is that most of the time they are willing to sacrify security to get performance. However a CF body will ofer the best of both worlds..the quetion is, do you belive that the price will be competitive?....let see what happens cause the test mule is crying and bigger than before (to the point that some writers confuse it with the new 7, thats odd), and that means that the CF is "mandatory" if they want to keep low weight and also better security standards, specialy in side impact zone, were most of the time, BMW is not a good performer.

Are you for real ?

A 6'3 passenger would be comfortable in the rear of the Panamera.
Im 6'4 220lbs and i am comfortable in the back of a 535d with 6ft driver up front. {Girlfriend}
The Panamera has Adjustable Rear Seats {Not Standard in the 7-Series}

* ParkTronics available in both {With Camera in Panamera}
* Advanced Cruise Available in both.
* Keyless Access & Go Available in Both.
* Burmeister Sound System in Porsche more advanced than anything BMW could Offer in their whole range.
* Bi Zenon with Active Hi-Dip and Corner Functions avail in Both.

Name 1 Useful Driving Gadget in the 7 that is omitted in the Panamera ?

The Panamera was DESIGNED TO COMPETE with the 7-Series/S-Class/A 8 Size of vehicles but have M5 Quattroporte S rivalling Handling. Does not mean it will be uncomfortable inside.

M5: Lenght:191.5in. Width: 61.7in. Height:57.8in. WheelBase:113.7in, F:62.2. R:61.7.

S63: Lenght:201.7in. Width: 73.7in. Height:58.1in. WheelBase:119.5in, F:63.1. R:63.2.

Pan: Lenght:195.7in. Width: 76.0in. Height:55.8in. WheelBase:115.0in, F:65.2. R:64.8.

Qua: Lenght:200.7in. Width: 74.2in. Height:56.0in. WheelBase:120.6in, F:62.3. R:62.8.

Hatchbacks and Wagons are so popular in Europe because of the Ability to better utilize rear space.
The panamera might be shorter than the S63 and Quattroporte but the Wider Body & Track and Strict 4 Seat Configuration mean they are able to set the rear Seats Closer and Further Back in the Vehicle than if it were a Saloon with Bench Seats for 3.

You got it wrong...you WILL be able to fit in the back seat (it was demanded by 6'4" Porsche CEO Wendelin Weideking).

BUT I wish it wasn't so, it is too tall back there and just a couple inches less and this car wouldn't have to make any apologies for the hunchback look.

I find it funny how Cadillac made such a big deal about the worlds fastest sedan around the ring considering no other foreign automaker even bothered to challenge it. Porsche finally after nearly 60 years on whether they should make a sedan or not. They finally do and beat the CYSEHSASFDJUN-RT1 by 3 seconds on their first attempt sedan.
