BMW: We looked at doing an M7 but then decided not to do it
It was very surprising to us when BMW confirmed that they were working on a BMW X6 M and an X5 M. Nonetheless, the two models are here and ready to go on sale in September. But how many BMW models can you turn into high-performance power behemoths? Could you imagine a BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo M or even a BMW X1 M?

One thing is for sure - BMW has no plans to do a high-performance version of the 7-Series. Last month a spy shot had popped up on the internet leading to speculations that the Munich automaker is working on an M7 for next year. However, it turned out that the spy shot was of an M Sports Package for the 7-Series.

In an interview with Automotive News, Kay Segler, head of BMW’s M division, confirmed that BMW will not do an M7.

“We’ve looked at that and...

Good decision, no need to M everything. Alpina is doing a good job on the 7er, and you can get the B7 trough BMW dealerships.

Id rather BMW do their own M7 who cares if alpina is doing a good job with it.....in that case BMW needs to stop the M3,M5,and M6 because alpina is doing a good job with those too....right.....I think BMW should have made a M7 a long time ago I think it would have sold better than the Alpina version B7. I am a huge B7 FAN :) but that would Go away if BMW make an M7.

I'd like to see an M7 too, but at the same time I agree the 544hp, 553 lb-ft 2010 760 will be more than adequate for power hungry 7-Series buyers. That's only 11 hp less (but 52 lb-ft more torque) than the new X5 and X6 M models, and those are ridiculously fast. So it's realistically going to be as quick as an M3, it'll have all the chassis gizmos that make the 750 such a capable handling car, and it'll be just as exclusive as an M would be. Do they really need an M on top of that?

They do have the Alpina 7-Series which is pretty hot and more exclusive. But BMW has never really been committed to a high performance 7-Series say like MB and Audi are to their flagships. It is rumored the next S8 will carry about 600 bhp (biturbo what not sure maybe V10).

S65 = TT V12 = 604hp 738lb/ft (detuned due to transmission unable to handle torque).

That's a car!
