Official: Lexus LF-A will carry a 550 hp 4.8-liter V10 engine
Back in May, we reported that the Lexus LF-A will make its official debut at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show and will hit the streets in 2010. Now, according to our trusted sources (this include also Japan’s Best Car Magazine), we found out that the new supercar will carry a 4.8-liter V10 engine, codenamed ‘1LR-GEU’, capable to deliver an impressive 550 hp. Regarding the production of the car: this will be limited to 500 units, while 120 units will be delivered in Japan! Deliveries are set to start in mid-2010!

Get that rendering out of my face!!! Please...
Like I've said many times, Lexus renderings have been more accurate than I would like... and changing the picture above would make things better x)

I hope they get to reuse that engine somewhere else in the line. GS-F?

WorldofLuxury, I can tell you are really not a true exotic fan, not sure if you're a faker or what! The world has already accepted the LF-A a new top-notch contender and at this point they don't care what kind of picture rendering is shown so get over it! This thing looks good as a coupe or a roadster. "It's a hands down winner"! Formula 1 V10 engine w/9,000rpm redline? "GAME OVER"!

Has Lexus ever produced a class-leading handling car? They've yet to create a car that can outhandle BMW. Why do some folks here believe that they can compete with Porsche, Ferrari, or Lambo? What is all this superiority being based on? its definitely not their past efforts.

I recall a Lexus IS250 outhandling an entire field of cars, to include the likes of BMW. And whadaya know. The link is below.

I never knew that the slalom was the be-all-end-all of handling tests. Just because the IS250 can beat a 335 going through cones doesn't mean that the IS250 is anywhere near the performance level of a 335. What about the other performance measures?

What do you think will happen to an IS250 if it were to go head-to-head with a 335 around a racecourse (road course,1/4mile, anything). I'll tell you, the IS250 would get destroyed.

The IS250 is a slow dog and doesn't offer anything near the performance level of a 335. Are you serious? FWIW the IS350 also was slower than the IS250 around the cones. Which one would you choose? the IS250 or the IS350?

Your username invalidates every statement you could possibly hope to ever make about Lexus. I just said this in another thread about the LF-A and it looks as if it is just as relevant here: a company relying on heritage to sell performance cars will do nothing but attract badgewhores. A company relying on the actual performance of their product will see great success.

I'm curious to know how you think the LF-A won't handle, seeing as you've never driven a Lexus supercar before. And good job brushing off the IS250.

The fact remains, you made the comment "They've yet to create a car that can outhandle BMW". And I provided you with one example where a Lexus did outhandle a BMW.

Does my screen name upset you? LOL!! And I never said that the LF-A “Won’t Handle” Stop putting words in my mouth!

Which companies are you talking about that rely on heritage to sell cars? Ferrari? Lambo? Nope. Although Heritage is an important part of their portfolio, they also produce very high performance machinery. Do you disagree?

As for company relying on actual performance to sell cars? You first must produce such cars, and up to this point Lexus pretty much hasn’t. They have built performance cars (1 or 2) but they aren’t the Alpha-Males that the fanboys here make them out to be.

The LF-A will be a nice performer for sure. But I doubt I will conquer Ferrari or Lambo. Just look at their past efforts. The IS-F fell short of the mark that the M3 has set.

Lexus has yet to build and produce a performance car that is the king in its category. What’s sad is that even though they haven’t built such a car yet, the fanboys are going gaga and calling the LF-A a Ferrari 599 Competitor. Please. For Lexus to reach that high with their first effort is a pipe-dream. They couldn’t even produce a car that out handled a BMW M3, and people think that they can all-of-a-sudden hang with Ferrari?

And oh yeah… The IS250 and performance shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence together. A 2004 Honda Accord offers more performance than an IS250. LOL!!

- Wow!! Beating a BMW in one performance measure doesn't mean that it beats it in hadling overall. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

This car is built on a tubular chassis so don't be surprised if the production version looks completely different. This is an aging design and Toyota is probably aware of this. It's quite easy to put a different body on these type of cars, stay tuned for the marketing stunt.

MSP6, People don't fool that easy. The Tubular Design in and of itself is indeed exotic. Formula 1 cars are typically tubular design, now does that tell you anything? Please keep us with us we're on page LF-A, paragraph exotic......"this is an aging design"...man you are totally lost! Talkin about oblivious to what's going on!!!!!!

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not stating that tubular chassis is an aging design, I'm only saying that the LF-A body is dated and that is going to be quite easy for Toyota to put a whole different body on that supercar.

"Yeah..We remember the IS-F and more people bought them than Lexus predicted"! Lexus will produce 500 units: 120 units will go on sale next year in Japan and the rest of the world will fight over the remaining 380 units. "Yeah...There will be a big disappointment alright"! "You dumb haters will be disappointed in how you could have been so blind to the truth"! Then again..."YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH"!!!!!!

The Truth is that the IS-F isn't as precise a handling tool as the M3. Live with it. Harsh ride and a confused transmission that doesn't know what gear it wants to be in are the main IS-F complaints. And lack of a LSD also kills its performance when compared to the M3.

Toyota invented nothing. Toyota took American inventions and decreased failure factor. Toyota is far from being a phenomenon. I agree they have been a hit because of there reliability. I have notices lately even there reliability is slipping. Don't get me wrong, I like toyota, but stop putting them on a pedestal.
