Review: Mercedes ML500-Four star treatment?

This is a luxurious SUV, which means sedan manners in an off-roader.

Fully equipped with an off-road pack, this M-Class is not a complete mug in mud and ruts itself. But its owners prefer an Armani to an anorak. They demand a prestige badge on their urban intimidator, and expect to get all the limousine trimmings on top.

+1 Boost
Having had an ML-500 since July, 2005, I can tell you that the statement: "teamed with Mercedes's new seven-speed automatic... Apart from an occasional slight thump into gear at low speeds..." is an understatement. It is really annoying ! The thump is there at every stop, and the vehicle usually jerks to a start as well, shifting 2 or 3 times in the first 15 miles per hour.
