STUD or DUD: Next Gen Audi A6 Better Looking Than E, M, 5, GS, TL, XF, CTS?

STUD or DUD: Next Gen Audi A6 Better Looking Than E, M, 5, GS, TL, XF, CTS?
As we see many new mid-level luxury sedans changing their look and technology, Audi has found itself trying to keep up.  With Mercedes' brand new 2010 E-class and BMW not far behind with their new 5-series, Audi has some work to do in order to be the best.

So,in this week's internet rumor mill are shots of the supposed next generation A6.  Whether or not they are valid remains to be certain but I will point out that this car's front fascia bears quite a resemblance to Audi's Sportback concept that debuted in Detroit earlier this year.

Pictures of the Audi Sportback concept are included down below.

What say you, Spies?  Stud or dud?

Should Audi continue this new design language, if this is the real deal?

Rendering looks sharper and slimmer than current fat A6. Big six sided grille is not an improvement, grille should be smaller and remain four sided.

Thats a wicked looking front fascia I think I can deal with it I like it. I always liked the A6 since the first RS6 they did in the late 90's that car still hold clout on the road. but that rendering would be a strong move for audi because its not as bland and boring like the current models.

Well, lopping off the top corners does technically make the grill smaller, but I don't find its size a problem since the license plate visually breaks up the expanse somewhat. I have grown quite fond of the gaping-maw grill--it's quite distinctive. The six-sided version makes the front look less blunt, more rakish.

The A7 is stunning and I hope this becomes, as faithfully as possible, the new design language. In the rendering, I don't like the grill inserts and foglights in the lower air intakes. The clean, grill-free design of the A7 Sportback concept's is more elegant and less busy. In all other respects, me likes.

Finally, Audi gets it right. I love it, and this is coming from a fan of BMW/MBZ.

Ah, that's it. I was wondering what it resembled.

I like the C6 better, esp the refresh. Let's see more pics, different angles before a true judgment is made. Audi's designs have been beautiful of late, I would hate this to be the end of the roll.

IMHO, this looks worse than TL.. and TL was the worest looking car among IS, G and C. (i don't like the E90 3 series, but that's just for me)

Audi has a way of making you think the next model will look "this" way and yet when it comes out it looks different. Case in point- the A5/S5...very different from what we were led to believe it would look (not that it was a bad thing). Point being that this is a rendering and with no test mules or otherwise to base it on then it is PURE speculation. One thing is for sure- Audi's future design language is getting edgier- witness the A7 concept. So whatever Ingolstadt decides for the new A6, one thing is for sure- it will be edgier than the current model and perhaps not so A7 looking.....

I hate the bass mouth grill. Audi really needs to fix it on all of their models.

The main shot of the car in bronze looks like a future A6 possibly, but the pics below look like the A7. Either way I like the direction Audi is headed, too bad they are just trumped up Vdubs- blah

They need to stick with their current implementation of teh drop jaw grill. It's ugly but at least we've all gotten used to it and it identifies the brand. Now it's just back to ugly again.

In this segment, IMO the E-Class has the best-looking front, while the XF has the best-looking rear, while the GS has the best-looking overall profile, while the current A6 has the best-looking interior. With this design, looks like it will stay that way.

Well, Audi's are good. Have always been ugly though (except the R8). They are begining to look exactly like each other now.. If this picture is anything close to what it will end up looking like. Its a shot and miss. It will be good no doubt, but boring..again..

Front looks great - rear is a dud. JMHO.
