BBC Top Gear announces what AutoSpies.com readers have known since July

Land Rover's Range Rover Sport has been crowned 'SUV of the Year' by BBC Top Gear at the magazine's annual awards celebration hosted by Jeremy Clarkson.



On sale since May this year, the Range Rover Sport is enjoying a very successful start, with over 20,000 sales around the world and 11 awards to its name. This latest honour comes on the back of rigorous road tests and challenges set for the vehicle by the Top Gear team - from out-manoeuvring a high-performance military tank with laser-locking devices on the TV show, to conquering Dubai's 'Big Red' sand dune in the magazine.

Top Gear editor, Michael Harvey, said: "The Supercharged 390bhp Range Rover Sport is the only choice for Top Gear magazine's SUV of 2005. BMW and Porsche make world-beatingly-great sports cars, one or two of which look a bit like SUVs. Land Rover has only ever made great SUVs, one of which now goes a lot like a BMW or a Porsche."

kinda off topic.........but is Top Gear not running new shows currently? I always watched it on the Discovery Channel here in the states but it hasn't been on for a few months. I love that show!

Will, were you watching it on the Discovery Channel as well? I wonder if they dumped the show? That sucks, the only show I actually looked forward to watching each week, now I'm stuck watching soaps with the wife, not good.

The did call the M5 ugly, but he certainly enjoyed driving it! I love the commentary on the show, it's great. C&D is okay, but tends to be pretty lame, nothing like Top Gear. Hopefully it comes back. The M5 video where they test it is floating around on here somewhere.

This car deserves the prizes.

As i said 2-3 months back that RR is a PERFECT VEHICLE.If u like it just BUY it and don't count it's Strong Rivals.

top gear is the greatest show and the only show i download online...its really the only show i regularly...hence y it won an emmy :P
the guys are hilarious...the cars they drive are sick...i cant wait till this sunday...they're drivin the veyron (my fav car :P )
so basically there is no need for bashing them...i think they're better than this place could ever be.

Don't forget the show is produced by the BBC, an institution that receives Government funding to entertain the British and to promote "Britishness" . . . and the Range Rover Sport is . . . wait-for-it . . . British. Wonder which vehicle the German magazines are saying is the best SUV?
