2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid gets 30 mpg
Later this summer, Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming new S-Class hybrid, the S400, will arrive in the US. The first series production hybrid to use a lithium-ion battery pack, the S400 hybrid also boasts of having an automatic stop/start system, regenerative brakes, and 45 components like wiring ducts and underbody panels that “are made from recycled, high-quality plastics.

” Daimler also added a recycling process for the li-on battery into the design of the vehicle. Daimler calls the new S 400 hybrid the “most economical luxury saloon with a petrol engine.” The German TÜV Süd agency has recognized the car for its “comprehensive environmental commitment.”

lolol, an escape hybrid gets 34city/31hwy. And that is epa numbers! If it was on the european cycle like the benzes claimed 30mpg, it would be in excess of 40mpg.

This is one test, right? I would wait until more tests are made so we can see the average.

Usually I don't trust magazines when it comes to fuel economy ratings for any car because I know how they drive them. My brother is a photographer and he once did a photoshoot for Motor Trend or Road and Track (not sure which one) and he reported it all back to me how they drive these cars.

Great. They should stick the hybrid system into the CL. I want a hybrid, ultra-luxurious coupe.
