2011 Hyundai Equus First Ride

We hang a right and head west onto the 10 freeway in Santa Monica toward the beach. The on-ramp is downhill, two lanes wide and drag-strip straight.

Suddenly I'm pinned to the large leather seat as the 2011 Hyundai Equus downshifts from 6th gear to 2nd and its 368-horsepower 4.6-liter Lambda V8 yanks the big sedan toward the Pacific. I look at the tach. Its needle is sweeping quickly through its arc as a muted V8 rumble chases us from behind. At 6,500 rpm, the transmission delivers a quick but smooth upshift just as we reach the traffic lanes of Interstate 10.

Where do you get your information? The LS460 tailpipes are NOT fake. More german fanboi bias I'll bet.

It certainly looks the part of a full size luxury sedan. From photos the interior looks to be well appointed as well. I would have never guessed it was a Hyundai. Although the price is fairly cheap for a car of this size, there's obviously one major car that is the better choice, the Mercedes E550 which I believe starts around $60. Either way the Equus is a great start, using the momentum from the Genesis Sedan/Coupe. If compared to an LS it surely is the bargain of the century. Deboost me but i'm being 100% honest. This suited up Hyundai looks the part and may satisfy buyers from one segment up. Never say never.

Now now give Hyundai a break. I think this looks better than the first rebadged Toyota LS when they first launched(Which by the way wanted to be the S-Class).

"classic "Lexus fake aluminum"

Starsearch, Hyundai gave the engineers near limitless funds to R&D this car. All the wood, aluminum and leather are real.

sector, the review says that "the Aluminum is plastic."

StarSearch, there was only "fake aluminum" in the IS around the Nav screen, but they removed that as of the 2009 model. All the shiny aluminum on the shifter knobs, is real.

Land barge.

Just because you can build it doesn't mean you should.

Hater.

Just because you hate it doesn't mean that you should be a village idiot.

Mitch, there will be a lot of cutting-edge stuff on the Equus, and will feature nearly 10 or more world first technologies which was developed by Hyundai

Copying Lexus tailpipes and interior is one thing, but naming it VS460 is pushing the enveloppe a little too far !! Equus already sound enough the same as Lexus, what's next can we expect from Hyundai, maybe a model called BNW, Bercedes-Menz, Hodi ?

I don't get why this fake tailpipe thing is still going around...
after so many other companies began using the idea...

I realize that you guys are pointing out how similar it is to the LS, but I feel like most people aren't aware that the new 7-series and many other cars have similar designs.

I must say I liked the VW Phaeton jab in the article, but, that car was one of the best on the planet.

Image and name plays out a lot, particularly in the U.S.

Seems like a decent car, but think it is overpriced and wonder who will pay that much for Hyundai.

This should fall anywhere between $50-75k, I'm sure Hyundai will use the "value" angle as usual so expect it to be much cheaper than competition. Remember Genesis sedan costs almost half of BMW 5er.

I will never understand the crazy comparisons going on in the automotive world. Why are all these Hyundais being compared to Lexus? Because they used Lexus as their benchmark, which is nothing new considering Buick, Lincoln, Cadillac, and so many others are doing the same thing. Does that warrant a comparison? No, not really.

So why stop the comparisons there? Compared to a Maybach 57, this car is really a steal. Why would anyone buy a Maybach when they can have this Equus for a fraction of the cost? They both are four-door luxury saloons, right?

You need to sit in one to make that judgement, many Hyundai dealers across the country actually have it on display.

Anthony you sound like a retarde person that lacks understanding. People who buy the Hyundai over a Lexus simply are not in the same purchasing power class.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, which is funny seeing as if it isn't then it is because you failed to pick up on mine. Regardless, thanks for insulting me right before restating the point I was trying to make.

To summarize, I agree with you.

Just got it, if you read the trunklid from left to right it says:
Equus | Vs460

Like in Equus VERSUS 460

Ah! that Korean humor...
