WHO Has The Prettiest Eyes Now? BMW or Audi?

WHO Has The Prettiest Eyes Now? BMW or Audi?
If you're a regular at AutoSpies.com you know we don't hold back our opinions and that we have reported that the switching over to the LED front light has singlehandedly been the best move Audi has made in years.

See our article discussing the Audi LED's

The biggest positive it brings to Audi is that it makes all the cars look like they have a piece of the R8 in them.

On the other side, LED Corona Rings are nothing new to the BMW faithful as an add on (Angel eyes), but things will be changing shortly.

Starting with the 5-Series GT, you won't have to go to the auto parts store because LED Corona Rings will be the new standard going forward on ALL future BMW models (or so our source tells us).

So now that the playing field will be leveled and BOTH Audi and BMW will use the LED headlight trim, the Spies want to know...

WHO has the prettiest eyes? Audi or BMW?

It's a tie with me.

Agreed.

It's hard to make the decision. I guess I could say I'm a tad biased because my R8 has the LED but BMW has improved a lot on their front end light styling. As for road presence the Audi LED's are definitely more eye catching but so are the angel eyes.

ITS HARD TO SAY BECAUSE BMW WERE THE FIRST ONES WITH THE HALO LIGHTS WHICH MADE THEM VERY UNIQUE BACK IN 2001 OR 2002

aUDI ON THE OTHER HAND HAS THE led TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS BUILT INTO THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WHICH LOOKS HOT. ITS A TIE THEY BOTH HAVE ELEGANCE, CLASS, AND A UNIQUNESS BUILT INTO THE HEADLIGHT. i HAVE NEVER PAID ATTENTION TO THAT BUT WAY TOO GO BMW AND AUDI

Difficult to choose. LED´s are pretty, but I think a have a love affair with the angels eyes, so my choice: BWM.

BMW of course, it is a much more coherent design. the rounded angle eye is a direct match not only to the front light, and wheel, but also to the BMW badge itself. the Audi's eyeliner design doesn't resonate with any part of the car (with the exception of R8, which has a lot of linear element and was the first one with Audi's corporate eyeliner).

Haha..

I loved the halo's when they first came out but they are a dime/dozen now. Still very classy and beautiful though.

Audi's lights are a new novelty, while still very stylish and eye catching, question is, will it last the turn of time.

I prefer the A6 Flat led array vs A4 IMO. The curved array looks more feminine vs straight array.

The Audi LEDs are far too pretentious "oooh look at me I can have my lights on while driving". The BMW's 'eyes' are far more prettier, come in different shapes(not just squares), and aren't anywhere near as ostentatious. The LEDs look cool on the R8, but now it seems to be a national sport to find every single Audi and smack the LEDs on it. Why does a family SUV and a compact need LEDs?

To make it worse, other companies are jumping on the bandwagon. Mercedes and Porsche are stuffing them into their front bumpers, what's next, LED's on school buses? Wait, that actually makes sense....

motor1motor1 - 7/21/2009 12:09:29 AM

But I have to say, I think the way that Mercedes and Porsche are doing it is far more subtle than Audi. The little LED in the bumper looks elegant and sporty, and the ones on the 911 look good. But hopefully, unlike Audi, Mercedes and Porsche won't do it for their entire range.

Well I think there was a study done in Canada a decade or so back that said driving with your lights ON actually reduces the frequency of accidents. Whether you believe it or not, I actually receive a discount on my insurance because my vehicles have DRL.

I think BMW's after 2009 utilize the halo's AS the DRL's, which serve a purpose(discount or actual reduction in accidents).

Not sure if Audi categorizes their decorative lights as true DRL's, and if the Trans dept recognizes them as.

I think new 7 series and 5 GT's headlamps both the outer shape and inner details are one of the best.

On other side all Audi models headlight's outer shape is similar, a rectangular box with led stripe flowing in them.
So IMO BMW as there headlights are nicer and also different in shapes like new 7, 5 gt, Z4, X1, X6...etc

I think I like both, both are unique, both say "hey I represent my brand" and I like things that set brands apart. The halos speak BMW and fits in well with their design. The flowing LEDs now speak Audi and when I have seen them on the road you can tell it's and Audi coming up the highway. I like both!

Audi, no question. BMW "rings of fire" began the look of uniqueness to lenses. Audi realize how a signature such as this can make the face of a vehicle look special include the grills as well. The Kidney grill is BMW, the Shield is Audi.

I would have to go with BMW, it seemed that they put more thought into it.
Adding a "strip" of led's just seemed likes marketing to me...Just like the new E-Class new "led fog" lights just below the front bumper.

I'll go with Audi, when you're driving and see it from a distance or coming up in your rear view mirror, there's no mistaking what it is. And it may be a gimmick but you have to admit it's a pretty cool gimmick.

The biggest issue I have with BMW's factory 'angel eyes' are that they have a very low-tech 'yellowish' tint, making them (literally) pale in comparison to Audi's very bright/high tech LED units. - Audi wins this one rather handily IMO.

the new angel eyes off the 550 GT are LED and are not pale or yellowish.

Doesn't matter if they're yellowish or white-ish, they still look like just one bulb (LED) at the bottom of the ring, which doesn't come close to looking as cool/bright as the Audi's.

I like the Angel eyes but thier yellow color makes them look awful. From what I understand now, the Angel eyes are LEDs which in this application offers a more plesant looking blueish/white color. Why didn't BMW use LEDs in the first place?
Angel Eyes have been out since 2001. it took BMW 8 Years to get the correct look for the angel eyes!

BMW is always late to the game when it comes to aesthetics. Take a look BMW's crude unfinished Brake Calipers. Every other luxury brand offers cars with nicely painted Brake Calipers, not BMW. With the exception of the 135, BMW's Brake Calipers look as aesthetically pleasing as Kia Brake Calipers. Maybe in 8 years BMW will get Brake Calipers right.

BMW's are way more distinctive. You know it's a BMW when you see them. Audi's are nice too, but not as distinctive. More and more cars are using very similar LED strips like Audi's. The refreshed S-Class has them, and the new XJ.

BMW, DUH! Audi only wishes they could have grabbed the ring look versus their not quite as cool line of LED's... The guys at BMW grabbed the best design first, although the rings would have been perfect for Audi- their missed opportunity...
