New Rear-Drive Cadillac Flagship Sedan Back on Track

New Rear-Drive Cadillac Flagship Sedan Back on Track
Less than a week after the New General Motors emerged from the scrapyard of Chapter 11, Section 363 Bankruptcy, three programs among the Cadillac and Buick divisions are back on the road.

First and foremost, the program to converge the DTS and STS into a new, rear-drive flagship Cadillac sedan is back on track after a one-year hold. The program has been renamed, however (we don't have the new name, yet), and the DT7 program designation has been shelved. That suggests Cadillac also has shelved plans to build the converged DTS/STS off Australian Brand Holden's Zeta RWD platform (Commodore/Statesman, Pontiac G8 and Chinese Buick Park Avenue). Cadillac will likely use its own Sigma (CTS) platform instead, which can be stretched long enough for a large, Mercedes S-Class competitor...

Cadillac is finally starting to act like the car company it is suppose to be.

YAYYY!
I love that car! So did Top Gear!
I loved how the engine bay looked... I know I know... it won't have a large displacement 16-cylinder engine, and the engine bay won't be like an Alfa Romeo's.

Hopefully, they still plan to make it big... VERY BIG.

Folks, this is GM we're talking about. Remember how nice the original Volt design looked? Expect the same to happen here.

I dunno, I think the final production volt looks a better then the original concept, it might not be as dramatic, but it looks less cheap. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/09/volt-concept-reality_opt.jpg

How old is this Sixteen concept? 10 years now? It still looks really good. I hope GM pulls it off right. A large sedan is the essence of what a Cadillac should be. Cadillac has the heritage to really pull off something special too. The Germans always harp on their heritage, Cadillac should start doing it too (forget the 80's and 90's, please!)... Cadillac had the first automatic starter, first automatic transmission, some other firsts, they made V12 and V16 sedans. I hope this new flagship is truly the 'standard of the world.'
