Emergency Bill Could Infuse $2 Billion Into Cash For Clunkers Program

The White House and Congress are working on an emergency bill to add $2 billion to the "Cash for Clunkers" program to keep it alive, two congressional aides said today.

At a House Democratic Caucus meeting this morning, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said the House is working to get unanimous consent to bring up an emergency funding bill for the program.

The funds would be transferred from the $787 billion stimulus bill approved in February and would come from a Title 17 energy loan guarantee program, which has been slow to be awarded, an aide said.

What's another $2 billion of taxpayer money matter when the Dems are burning through trillions already?

Compared to the trillion dollars in tax cuts for the wealthy that got us in to this mess 8 years ago, I'd say an extra billion to keep autoworkers working, to keep dealers in business, to provide hundreds of millions in sales tax revenue, to get more fuel efficient cars on the road is a fairly small investment.

How many people whined when the automakers were given the bailout, why not just just pay us to buy GM and Chrysler cars? Well so heres some cash for the people this time. A billion dollars is chump change next to what the government gives to big business-this bailout, the TARP bailout, oil companies, defense contractors. Chump change. Enjoy it if you qualify. I dont, but o well.
