Audi releases its financial result for the first half of the year
Audi reported an operating profit of 823 million euros in the first half of the year, down from 1.3 billion euros in the same period last year. In the first 6 months of 2009, Audi sold 466,000, while it sold 516,219 units in 2008, a 9.7% drop.

Audi board member Axel Strotbek said that the company is very satisfied with the result but that it does expect to experience some difficulties in the second half.

Audi has been able to achieve these strong financial results during a worldwide recession that has left the global auto industry battered and reeling because it has built a brand that values profit over sales.

Audi has not and vows that it will not "Buy" sales by offering cheap leases and large discounts that erode profitability.

With over $1 billion profit for just the first hald of one of the worst years for the auto industry in 30+ years, Audi will be able to allocate a substantial amount of money to R&D and continue to launch its flurry of new models without worry.

I look forward to 2010 when the new Audi A8 will be launched with its innovative hand-writing recognition software along with the A7 large four-door coupe and, of course, the A1, an all-new Mini competitor that is sure to boost sales greatly.

Poor Mercedes-Benz that lost 1.3 Billion Euro. Maybe Audi can bail them out and purchase them like they did Lambo. Now that would be a nice irony.

I think a lot of Audis success this year and last year is due to model designs. Theres nothing really impressive by Audis non S motors. The 3 series and 5 series walk all over the A4/A5/A6. Nevertheless I AM an Audi fan and have been for years.I'm especially a fan of the turbo S4. Just saying i feel their designs have contributed to their recent success as a company. Not too many cars on the road right now can catch your eye like a white/red/blue A4/A5 coming down the street with its LED headlights. In particular the A5 is a beautiful machine.

Sorry, but the 328i will NOT walk all over the A4 with the 2.0T. It's actually the other way around...
And the A6 with the the new 3.0 Supercharged V6 is on par with the 535.

You echo my opinion exactly. More people (excepting badge fanatics) will prefer a good-performing, great-design Car A than a great-performing, questionable- (or even ugly-) design Car B.

Car B has a positive (performance) and a negative (design).
Car A, while its performance may be relatively weaker, nonetheless would still be considered with two positives (performance and design).

Currently, Car A is Audi, and to some extent, BMW and Mercedes are Car B.

Read the post by Alex T above. The 3.0T easily holds its own easily.
