Review: 2006 VW Jetta

I have looked at the Jetta and the GLI version is awesome. Wonderful seats and one of the nicest steering wheels in the industry. Yes I know many complain that it looks like a Japanese car from the back end but there is no mistaking it when you drive it and sit in it. Now I am not sure if it is built well, and I have heard stories of awful build quality, but I have had 2 GTi's (95 & 97) and they never gave me any issues. As long as it has a warranty I would put my money on this (or I may just wait for the GTI to come out)

Did you even read what else I said.... I said I "HEARD" that the quality is questionable.... I also said I have OWNED 2 GTi's before and they were excellent, never any problems....
And yes I did see it close up, however the issues VW has had have been electrical lately, not with the interior fittings or other things....most of their issues have stemmed from what you can not see..... Even VW's head boss has admited VW has had some quality issues (Automobile Magazine January 2006 Issue).

So 001Buster, I guess VW's Boss is making the rumors....He was the one that said it to a public magazine....Guess you need to e-mail him.

ON TOPIC- Haven't driven the Jetta but thought the last gen (GLI model at least) was nice looking. I'm not crazy about the way the new one looks, I think the front end throws me off with the Chrome trim on the bumper, just looks horrid in my opinion. Probably drives nicely however, I'm excited to see a GLI model, needs a little more spice to look better, looks really bland in base form, as most cars do.

To write a comment, fill out the form below. " It does say OPINION. So once again let me say the new Jetta GLI was awesome. I hope it is built as good as it seemed at the test drive and with my past experiences of VW's I can't wait to try the new GTI, which is on my future purchase list....

There is his quote....

...."The Jetta has a good reputation in the United States and the Touareg is doing well. The worm will turn with the new Passat and the new Jetta. But we have to catch up in the United States as well on the quality side and on costs," he said.

I wasn't ever dogging VW....But since you said you wanted specifics I began to research it.... Didn't know about all of the recalls....now I do.

VW Recalls Golf, GTI, Jetta Models (Consumer Affairs Administration)

Volkswagen is recalling 369,284 cars for various defects, including leaking fuel pumps and defective hazard light switches, the National Highway Transportation Agency (NHTSA) said.

VW is recalling 300,000 Golf, GTI and Jetta cars from 2000-2002 model years because the hazard switch and flasher system function may degrade over time due to high electrical current load from turn-signal bulbs, according ot NhTSA.

VW, Europe's biggest automaker, is also recalling 19,284 Golf, Jetta, Beetle and Passat cars from 2004-2005 model years because a leaking diesel fuel pump could lead to a fire. The high pressure diesel pumps were produced with an improper fastener, which could allow diesel fuel to escape from the pump.

Also, Volkswagen said it is checking as many as 447,000 cars made between 2001 and 2003, including the Golf, GTI and Jetta models, for possible airbag problems after officials came up with 107 cases in which side-door airbags may have deployed improperly.
