That is nothing compared to the money lost at war - financially, politically, by casualties, long-term, short-term, etc.

I have no problem putting more of my money into a plan that is actually working, unlike the money that was dumped into an uncalled for war, and cost so many men and women their lives.

how is it great news that the government is throwing around cash THAT IT"S BORROWING FROM CHINA? that's who's financing this and all our other debt.
explain to me, on a policy level, how this is sound economically.

Most of the banks have to pay back their debt with interest.

how is this a lasting change that will lead to economic recovery?
it's a gimmick and the benefits end in a few weeks as soon as the next $2 billion is spent. no structural or policy change here....just throwing around money.
the debt unfortunately, will last for decades.
oh...and this program is not income limited, so people making $500k a year are getting the same taxpayer cash as the little guy.
SUCH BULLSHIT.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the person making $500k a year paying a lot more to the government? Saying that he should be less entitled to this program as a welfare person is stupid.
But I also have to disagree, if the government spends $4500 per car, how much of that $4500 is it making back in taxes from the sale of the car, and it's components and all the transactions that took place up to the selling of the car that went to the government?

Joe, there is a different, additional tax incentive that basically covers the sales tax paid on the car. People taking advantage of the cash for clinkers will get a real nice tax rebate when they do their 2009 taxes.

A plan that works, huh? The government giving away free stacks of cash. Who would have ever conceived a novel plan succeeding? Guy who thought this up should win a Nobel prize. No worries though. Taxpayers will pick up the tab.

The car alone does not a clunker make - people who do not properly maintain their vehicles make the clunker - put THAT in your pipe and HyundaiSmoke it !

Couch change compared to the Wall Street and GM/Chrysler bailouts, and the wars.
What else have we done this well to stimulate (local) business in this great recession, prop up communities relying on sales tax, reduces oil imports, help the environment, and create a safer car fleet?
