Toyota Says No To Federal Funds: No Plans To Invest In American Battery Plants
Toyota Motor Corp. did not seek U.S. government electric-vehicle or battery-making grants because so far it has no plans to bring that work to the United States from Japan, the automaker's top lobbyist said yesterday.

"We didn't see a need at this point in time to go for those funds," said Josephine Cooper, Toyota's group vice president for public policy and government/industry affairs.

But Toyota supports the government's offering those programs to other automakers and views Nissan Motor Co.'s receipt of $1.6 billion in the U.S. grants as a positive sign, she said.
