Upcoming Cadillac XTS to share the same platform with Buick LaCrosse
Rumors of a new flagship Cadillac have been circulating for years now. Guesses of what the next-generation flagship sedan would be have ranged from a Zeta-based vehicle sharing Pontiac G8 heritage to the most recent reports of an XTS-badged AWD sedan. The latest reports are saying that the DTS/STS replacement is a go.

Instead of a Zeta-based solution, the new flagship will ride on a modified version of the Epsilon II platform found in the 2010 Buick LaCrosse. GM insiders say that the FWD Epsilon II platform will be made wider and longer and converted to AWD. Cadillac’s strategy of building a lineup of small, medium, and large is suspiciously similar to BMW’s own lineup.

Just about every luxury brand has small, medium and large sedans, not just BMW.

More on topic, a Cadillac flagship should be based on a platform unshared with any other vehicle, save for an even higher end model.

I don't understand why the CTS and the smaller model get RWD, but they revert to stupid FWD for the flagship car. I'm dissapointed. They should be using the G8 platform - it's got the interior space and a well sorted ride/handling balance. A G8 dressed in Cadillac clothing would have been very interesting. It sounds like they're making a new DTS instead.

Maybe a G8-based Cadillac would be more sporty than luxury and thus wouldn't be seen as a true flagship model. This is the problem Cadillac had with the STS. It wasn't exactly a sports sedan, but it wasn't a pinnacle of luxury either. Had GM used the current CTS front facia on the STS, it may have had a chance to entice more buyers.
