Is Money magazine totally out to lunch on their top luxury sedan showdown?

From the 12/16 CNN/Money magazine article...

Here's how they ranked the luxury sedans

Scores were 1-10 and graded on these categories: Performance (P), Design (D), Luxury (L), Value (V)

Audi A6
Overall score: 36

Infiniti M35/M45
Overall score: 33

BMW 5-series
Overall score: 31

Lexus GS
Overall score: 27

Acura RL
Overall score: 25

We think they're way off on their rankings.

Here's how AutoSpies.com would rank these cars based on the same criteria...

Scores are 1-10 and graded on these categories: Performance (P), Design (D), Luxury (L), Value (V)

Lexus GS-Series P8 D9 L10 V7 Total 34
Infiniti M-Series P9 D7 L8 V9 Total 33
Audi A6 P7 D8 L9 V8 Total 32
Mercedes-Benz E-Class P8 D8 L7 V6 Total 29
BMW 5-series P10 D6 L7 V6 Total 29
Acura RL P4 D6 L9 V5 Total 24

Now ratings are a funny thing...change the criteria and the rankings can totally change.

If we were ranking the list just based on totally subjective matters, like which one would WE buy in order of preference, look how the rankings change

What luxury sedan would AutoSpies.com buy with our own money, if we had to choose?

1. BMW 5-series
2. Infiniti M-Series
3. Tie: Mercedes E-Class/Lexus GS-series
4. Audi A6
5. Acura RL

Why did we pick them that way?

Because the drive is the most important factor to us. Luxury is secondary to performance for us.

That being said, we believe the majority of this market buys luxury first and performance second.

We'd love to see your ranking. Post your choices below.

And Contiroane,Jovi,Agent 004, Well picks guys have German cars first and then atlast keep the Japao. What a great pick....

U guys r just ignorants and just don't even bother to have a look at Japo cars.U just picked Euro from the list and paste it in #1,#2,#3 and kept the other 3 japo at bottom(Because below that u were unable to rank them otherwise u would have rank them in #100s).

This shows your ignorance, hatred toward Japo cars, anger towards the Japo and the truth.....GET LOST

Get lost, eh? Harsh words, JUGNU. I'm sure if you provided substantial evidence, or even a educated opinion on why the three Japanese cars should sit pretty at the top, I wouldn't be typing this post.

Unfortunately, due to your child-like wisdom, lack of automotive knowledge and uncanny ability to sound like a 5 year old, you are not taken seriously.

So, why should an Acura RL be higher on the list than an Audi A6?

Care to share?

most luxury sedan buyers aren't buring up the rubber on back roads. The A6 is the most luxurious, safest and best designed car in the group, and also the slowest and least sporty. For most luxury buyers, it fits the bill. For most AutoSpies readers, it would be boring.

Hold on, autospies. Why do you think Money's "totally out to lunch"? The MB wasn't included in the original article. Other than the Lexus, you don't judge them all THAT much differently. Of course, if you change the criteria, (which you did in the middle of your rant), then it's not surprising to get a completely different result. So what?

Turning attention to the peanut gallery, are you drinking again, Agent 004? When did you experience torque steer in a new RL? It's state-of-the-art AWD. Did that last boilermaker blur your vision and make RL look like TL? Try this: sober-up, clean-up, and go test drive an RL. Remember, ask for an "R"L and not a "T"L.

As for you, Jugnu - settle down. You're not helping. Oh, sorry, let me put that in the i-dunce vernacular, "u gots 2 r3lax."

I have driven all the Japanese cars.

Bottom line: They dont compare to the Germans.

Not in the slightest.

GET OVER IT.

1. A6 - Best Overall Package
2. GS - Not German
3. E-Class - Lost quality & Prestige
4. M - Forgot about safety? Not German
5. 5-series - German w/Bangle design
6. Acura - Why even bother with this one?

I agree with u on RL But u didn't noticed my picks, i even placed it last on my list.Becoze i think it needs improvement.

But what about Lexus GS and Infiniti M,Because they give u more then expected in less money.

Lexus GS:

Ride:Smooth and entertaining ride with so much fuctions, systems and new technologies.

Performance:Descent Performance.GS 430 is mated to a 4.3 litre producing 300BHP and the all new 3.0 litre 245BHP V6 on the GS300 coupled to a 6 speed sequential automatic.

Quality:Well known high-quality Materials used inside and out.Fit and finish in impeccable

Interiors:Spacious interiors with it's high-quality materials including exotic woods polished to a glassy finish, polished metal and supreme quality leather.
The most intresting thing about the interior is how quit it is.Lexus have done a good job at quiting down the cabin by using sound deadning materials.

Almost same goes with the Infiniti M with only performance is better than the GS, and in other every aspects lexus is over Infiniti.

ANd mathew what is your problem. My comments r the most generous and true then anybody here.I don't rank them according to their history,passion,prestigue...all that nonsense.

I rank them on the basis that how they improve themself and keep on conquring new heights and going up in every aspect and category. How they r loved and liked. There Quality, reliability, good work and effort that has gone in to make out a car. These things define a good car rather than what u said and look for in a car.

May u understand me

You don't seriously mean you would pick the Mercedes E-lectrical nightmare with its "fly-by-wire" crappy brakes (that even Mercedes admits is crap and has removed), electronic steering, 2-wheel drive, with no-more-full-maintenance over the Audi A6 do you?

And you would be willing to spend about $10 to 20K more to do it??

Are you really that enamored with the trendy 3-pointed star, or is that Alzheimers kicking in?
