Audi Prices 2010 S4 Under $46,000
Audi of America has priced the 2010 S4 at 45,900 dollars, significantly less than the outgoing S4. The 2009 version started at 57,125. The lower starting price for the S4 places it closer to its main competition, BMW's 335i and 335i xDrive sedans. Audi has also announced that the 2010 A5 Cabriolet will start at 42,000 while the S5 Cabriolet starts at 58,250.

Say what you will, but the S4 is really closer to an M3 competitor than anything, with the RS4 being in an entirely more (rarified) league in most respects. Either way, at this price, the S4 a pretty good value.

no...the S4 is an immediate competitor to the 335i in terms of power and price. however, the 335i still outhandles the S4.

the RS4 is the audi challenger to the M3.

Not a fan of either brand, but it's an established fact that the m3 is the benchmark. The s4 can't even be uttered in the same sentence as the m3. Pick your poison, the m3 will belt it in every performance category. It will also hand the s4 its ass at the track. The s4 should, IMHO, be compared to the 335.

Audi has repositioned the S4, it's performance and price are inbetween the 335i and M3. A potential RS4 will be the true M3 competitor.

But there is some price/performance overlap between the 335, S4 and M3 depending on how many features you want and whether you are ok with mods.

this now makes more sense than before. now i can consider buying the audi instead of just the 335i

S4 definately isnt a M3 competitor. Maybe a few years ago. With options your still probably looking at a little more than the 335 with similar options. Is it worth it? Reviews should answer that.

I agree the M3 is no longer an M3 competitor in the slightest now it is compared to cars of a much higher price bracket, and performance. The new S4 is alot more in line with the 335i/xi. The price, and new engine should also help it become more appealing the last V8 was slower than the 335i, and got worse gas mileage than the m3, the new S4 gets great epa ratings(if it can deliver on them) and from what Ive seen in test times in the low 5s, and with more room than before it now is very logical choice.

I would be pissed if I had purchased a 2009 model. Your 2009 S4 just lost value. BIG TIME

MTM offers a chip that will bring it to 430hp. Why the chip costs 2500 euros is what I want to know.

Well now that Audi USA has discontinued the 3.2 FSI engine in the A4, this will be necessary for those looking for the A4 with something punchier than a 4-cylinder...not that the 2.0TFSI is bad, but all the competition uses 6's. This may explain the price decrease, as it's supposed to somewhat replace the 3.2 model.

S5 only comes with Quattro....
All "S" models Audi are Quattro.

I find it fascinating that some are saying the S4 is a competitor to an M3, and some even say the S4 is between a 335 and M3. Sorry. That's just not true. 335's regularly show sub 5 second 0-60 times, and the new S4 is 6.1!? I think my seven year old 330Ci can hang with that.

Not to mention you can have the sub 5 second performance with the M Sport package for $46,300 sticker.

S4 is a better value than the last S4, no doubt. But you're going to have to do better than that to compete with BMW. And I don't even LIKE the E90, E92.

YOU IDIOT!!

The 3.0TDI A4 and A5 do 0-62 in 5.9secs {Official and Proven}

So HTF did you find 0-60 times of over 6.0 secs for an S4 ?

I find wankers like Hantra extremely irritating. Spewing garbage and pretending they are facts, there should be some sort of PrickOMeter next to people's comments so you can identify the Nonces.

Actually I misread this article. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/112_0809_2010_audi_s4/index.html It said 6.2, but it was for the A4. Strange they would even put an A4 0-60 time in an article about the 2010 S4.

Audi is quoting a time of 4.9 seconds for the US. In every European test the S4 was quicker than the 335.

the s4 cannot compete with the m3. now maybe it can with price but it cant even out due the 335. the 335 is faster then the s5 and the s4 (last years models) and if you watch the video on you tube (search top gear m3 vs c63 vs rs4) the rs4 cant even hang with the m3 came in last. audi makes nice cars but for the price they lack the perfomance. I got my m3 convertible brand new for a better lease price then a s5. the s5 was 59k the bmw was 79k payment for the audi was 1000 a month the bmw 770. even the audi dealer said i know its a no brainer maybe ill see you in 3 years

Sorry dude....
The 335 option to option is actually $1k to $2k more expensive than the 335.
And there are no lease specials on the S5 nor there will ever be..
That is why it holds it's value so well.
Try getting out of your M3 ahead of time and see how buried you are in it..

what are you smoking alex?

there's a lease DEAL on EVERY car under $100,000 right now. just walk into a dead quiet dealership and see what you can negotiate.

AlexTxAlexTx - 8/18/2009 1:23:33 PM

Deal on price is one thing... deal on lease is another.
A dealer does not set the lease residuals or money factors.. Financial institutions do.... if they don't offer any lease deals, you can negotiate all you want, but you will still have a high payment.

When compared sedan to sedan the supercharged V6 is 2,700 cheaper than the V8 S4. The S5 convertible has quattro and 7 speed S-Tronic standard, it's only a hundred dollars more than the outgoing S4 convertible with tiptronic.

Thanks chewy. I didn't think that 57k number in the article was right...or at least not apples to apples. I remembered in the ballpark of 47k for the base model.

alex there are no lease specials on audi cause they dont want them back after 3 years. my bmw dealer called me and said if i want to get out of the m3 i could right now for no loss i said no thanks. the residual values on audi or so low its scary and who in their right mind would want out of an m3 lease at 770 a month they are back up to 1200 a month for the coupe and you cant get out of any lease early without losing money where have you been

Why the big debate on whether or not the new S4 competes with the M3? Over the last number of years its absolutely obvious that the RS4 is the only Audi that's competed with the M3, never beating it, but at least competing. When and if Audi decides to come out with a new RS4, that's what will compete with the M3 again, its really not that difficult.

there is no debate golfer. as i said in my first post the s line of audi competes with the 335 its just some people want to swear the s line competes with the m and the rs is better then the m just not the case
