STUD or DUD? 2011 Infiniti M Makes Virtual Debut And We Have The Real Life Shots Up Close!
While the other websites are showing you lame press shots of the 2011 Infiniti M-Series, 001 was trumping them again with these KILLER shots (Complete with interior that no one else has), from the virtual reveal tonight in Pebble Beach.

Infiniti used some really cool video technology to 'wrap' a white foam model and bring the 2011 M to life.

Key info on the car... There will be 2 models...An M37 and an M56.

The 56 will cross the 400hp level with better fuel econony than the current models and will be the first sedans to not just alert you to an improper lane change, but to prevent you from moving into the lane if there is a car there.

Look for the official intro of the actual car, December 1st at the LA Auto Show.

So AutoSpies.com readers...RENDER your verdict...STUD or DUD? Is it what you expected, hoped for, or did it fall short of expectations?

PRESS RELEASE

2011 Infiniti M Makes Virtual Debut at Concours d'Elegance

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Aug. 14, 2009) – Infiniti today provided an advanced look at the all-new 2011 Infiniti M performance luxury sedan at the 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. This is the third generation of Infiniti's popular M and the first to be sold across all of Infiniti's 32 markets around the world, including Western Europe.

Like the current Infiniti M, the next-generation design will be offered with V8 and V6 engines. The 2011 M models will be designated the Infiniti M56 and Infiniti M37 respectively, reflecting their more powerful, larger displacement engines. The M56 V8 is expected to offer more than 400 horsepower. For Western Europe, the M56 will be replaced by a V6 performance diesel.

The 2011 Infiniti M also features a completely redesigned body, with authentic sports sedan proportions and evocative new styling with a low front end and deeply sculpted fenders inspired by the Infiniti Essence concept car. The new M interior promises to be pure Infiniti, highlighted by the use of innovative materials, an advanced climate control system, superior audio and an enhanced quality feel. Despite improved performance from the new engine lineup, fuel consumption will be reduced.

In addition, the 2011 M will continue Infiniti's technology innovation leadership with a blind spot intervention system. This industry-first system is designed to help alert the driver if another vehicle is detected in an adjacent lane during an intended lane change, and then help assist the driver in returning the vehicle toward the center of the original lane of travel.

The 2011 Infiniti M, which is scheduled to go on sale across the world starting from spring 2010, was revealed through a unique "video mapping" process – in which a "virtual M" was created on a 3D form. It is the world's first "virtual only" (no physical vehicle) automotive application of this cutting-edge technology. The 2011 Infiniti M will make its official public debut later this year.

Understanding that there's obviously a bit of distortion on a few of these pics... This thing's Simply Stunning! It's pretty much as I envisioned a sedan/saloon version of the Essence Concept to be. - Here's to hoping this translates well into an equally handsome production version.

I need to see the back. Front looks like a supersized G37/Maxima. Not a bad thing, but I need real life pics to decide.

What do they call a firecracker that doesnt explode? Oh, right...a DUD.

I laughed when I saw this thing. This company creates one design and runs with it. The interior looks almost the same [as every other recent nissan product] and the exterior, with its maxima front end [minus retarded headlight design] and profile from the Elantra, doesnt exactly scream 'flagship'.

Dud that it is, it's a masterpiece compared to the new e-class.

Front end is very nice a bit like G37. Rear end is not clear in the photos. But so far looking very promising. Also i think 5.6 V8 will have significantly more power than the 5.0 V8 in FX50 so i am expecting 415-420BHP. Great job Infiniti.

"Its funny how Japanese luxury cars are now also class leading in terms of design. The GS and the old and new M are so beautiful. Automotive perfection. Everything else is just nasty."

Even funnier how bottom-of-class jap luxury cars are in terms of sales and driving enjoyment, and how they look JUST like the lesser sedans from their parent companies. Automotive BOREDOM. Everything else embarrasses them nastily.

Surprise surprise, EL34 doesn't like it. Don't be bitter because it looks better than the Hyundai-inspired generic E-class from MB.

Also why M56? Do they feel 37 is too close? They could easily tuned the VQ50 to over 400hp. Why not just twin turbo the VQ37 engine to 420 hp/lb-ft?

First of all not sure who said g37/maxima but they are completely diffrent cars.. The M is much much bigger than either of the others anyway. Also why buy a maxima when you can get a G37 (rear wheel drive/AWD) for the same money as apposed to a front drive maxima (bla)

I admire what Infiniti is try to do here but......

The odd high belt line seem to throw the greenhouse of. The mirrors are HUGE and give it an "Howdy Doody" profile. The over exaggerated wheel arch cause the wheels to looks diminutive. Both front and back ends look like a bar of soap left in the shower to long. The look is more polarizing than inviting: this is not going to help sells.

Sorry I'm going with dud.

Infiniti is definitely running its own game. The M Series design, derived from the Essence Concept is somewhat milder than I expected and would prefer more "shock and awe". This looks familiar but not boring. Clean but not sterile. The interior of the Essence was a great road map to follow, but like most production models, fail to live up to them. That said, the production on its own merit is clean and flows beautifully, kind of japanese Jag. This M, as long as it has the same baptism as the G series in the water of sport performance, will do very well against the executive series cars. When was the last time an M series was compared to BMW 5 Series?

I like the design, it's very sensual with all the voluptuous curves.
So if I equate it with a feminine form , then I can't call it a Stud, rather I shall say GLORIA.

It honestly is hard to judge those pictures look distorted. I will say Im going to like it, very few Japanese cars have an passion or soul in their desighn and that certainly applies to the current M. This one looks like more than an overchromed Nissan. Thats a good thing, the curves the lines Im sure in person or in real pictures it would be a showstopping car.

After seeing those new pics (thanks 001), I have to say that this is one very handsome sedan, and easily the best looking (inside and out) in its class (5-Series/GS-Series/E-Class/A6-Series). Everything else looks instantly dated, and given that the new 5-Series is essentially going to be a sedan version of the hideous 2010 5GT, I'd say that it too won't come close to looking this good.

My first impression was a little disappointment as I had hoped for the as someone called it the shock and awe Essence grill/headlight design.

I didn't like it at all from the side/rear view, especially at the C-Pillar and the ES350 style rear.

And I don't think the interior was groundbreaking enough, especially after seeing the virtual display gauges in the new Jag and Range Rover.

All in all my impression was a B-.

I have to say, this M sure looks great compared to the current generation. This is just me but it seems that the taillights have a hint of the XF and XK in it. And this is taken from Edmunds but someone said that there a hint of Cayenne if you cover the the lower half. http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightline/2011-infiniti-m-f34-555.jpg

It looks like they gave the current M some steroids, some extra curves and called it a day. I'm not sure of my choice but I would still take this over the E Class.

I see some Q45 in those tails and the shape is a nice evolutionary change to the previous M. I would have liked to see a little more Infinite Essence in the front clip and a little more work on the grill, its almost square while the rest of the front clip is very curvy, but the headlights are great. I'M not sure I would have went with the VK56 since they could have easily got the new FX V8 over 400HP but the torque should be insane which makes me grin. Overall I call it a STUD, Infiniti is trying to get a family resemblance going here. Nothing wrong with that, look how well it's worked for Audi and BMW. I was just about all set to pull the trigger on a supercharged A6 in the spring, but I will definitely drive an M56 first.

Absolute STUD!

Very advanced and elegant design, soft flowing lines with cohesive angular accents while showing muscular and athletic contours.

Nissan/Infiniti must have some advanced robotics and manufacturing processing techniques to be able to create such dynamic and shapely body panels, this thing makes the E-class and 5-series look like box on wheels.

Another plus is the V8 engine model, NA is the way to go in true luxury engines, I'm glad they didn't just cheat by putting in turbos into lesser V6 or even the V8 5.0L from FX50.

Why do you guys not like them putting turbos on the V6? If they put a twin-turbo on the V6, and they tune it correctly, that could be a great car with loads of low-end and mid-range torque.

This not a great looking car. It is uninspired. That is very hard to do in this commodity luxury category this car is in. These buyers do not want flashy. It has a very feminine look to it. Especially the rear and the front facsia looks like it modified from the Maxima.
