STUD or DUD: FIRST Interior LIVE Shots Of Hyundai's S-Class Competitor, The Equus
No one saw Hyundai's Genesis sedan coming and the dominant luxury manufacturer's have paid the price. As seen in the latest JD Power rankings, where the Hyundai Genesis was rated the highest newly-launched vehicle, Hyundai has taken the auto industry by storm.
Now, the brand continues to reinvent itself by taking on the large, luxury sedan segment with the Equus. 001 was on the scene this morning and got some shots revealing the INTERIOR of the new, 7-series fighter.
Does it have what it takes to fight the big, bad Audi/BMW/Lexus/MB's of the world?

The hood ornament has to go.
Otherwise, it's good looking, not exciting but it looks luxurious.
Remove the hood ornament and chromed wheels and you have a serious DTS/Lucerne Super/LS460 contender.

Equus will shut lots of people up when it comes out to US.
Just like what happened after Genesis came out last yesr.
Keep talking and realize your retardation later!

Credit must be given where credit is due. The Equus' interior looks the part of a full size luxury sedan. It may not be expensive like my LS or have the flash of my S but my god this will attract many consumers who are watching their expenses. The car has presence from photos. It's chrome bits make it appear more luxurious of course. Based solely on looks it's a winner for Hyundai. A good looking flagship built off the momentum of the Genesis. Hyundai will shock many world tier 2 luxury brands and take some from tier 1 no doubt about it.

This is true, since the toyota ls is a class below those as well.

Yeah Mitchell's right on this one, as the LS competes in an inferior class The LS is often cross-shopped with cars such as Hyundai Azera, Kia Amanti, Buick Lucerne, and used Buick Roadmasters.

I dont see this as a competitor for the S-class and 7 series. It looks too small.Interior room looks smaller than those cars.I doubt it will have as mich gadgets as those cars, but than again i really dont know the specs.

Looks decent, but nothing really special about it, just looks really generic. Should impress people who are shopping for a Hyundai.

Ya know, switch Hyundai and add toyota, and we could say the exact same thing about the ls460.

I was just going to say the same thing! How many different logos will Hyundai make? I mean, they could have pulled a Toyota & Lexus thing by having Hyundai dealers and Genesis dealers... then just numerical names for the actual Genesis, the Genesis Coupe and now the Equus, which is also a strange name for a car - from Wikipedia: Equus is a play by Peter Shaffer written in 1973, telling the story of a psychiatrist who attempts to treat a young man who has a pathological religious/sexual fascination with horses.[1]

It looks nice but not amazing. I think the new Infiniti M is much better looking than this, inside and out. And thats below the Equus' class.

I enjoy the ignorant comments about the name, Hyundai USA brought this car directly from the Korean market hence the name/badging etc.. get a clue and try not to sound retarded.
I have been in the previous gen Equus and it was nice and comfy I am sure this is a lot better being it is more modern

Black interior looks better than what is shown in these pictures.
This thing is looking good so far.
I don't think they need the "460" labeled though. "Equus" should be enough.

I can't say it's a Stud or a Dud, which all in itself should say how I feel... I feel it looks like something we have already seen and I'm starting to get this feeling of something that is "dated". All I can really say is I see a car.

The exterior is a disaster and yet distinctively Korean looking somehow. The interior design is decent but the materials look pretty bland and somewhat cheap. Like the Lexus LS there is little inspiration when it comes to designing attractive interior for the front and rear doors and the wood looks really tacky too.
And as a typographer I am really bothered by the terrible font Hyundai used to write the word "Equus". This serif font has something Medieval to it but it just doesn't fit the car's design and I guess "personality" at all. Hell, I think even something as simple and comical as the front "Freestyle script" would have worked better than this horrible typeface font they used.

DUD,
This LS460... I mean "VS" 460, looks like it has last-gen RX headlamps, a Lexus interior and a new E-class rear.

Someone needs to contact Hyundai and inform them about how terrible chrome everything looks.
Otherwise it looks like it'll be a decent enough car. Like most Hyundai, the value proposition will be high. Good price, reliability, warranty, etc.
In this economy, it just might win over some people who don't necessarily need a Lexus or Mercedes badge to show off but want a car they can relax in as a passenger. There aren't too many options with reclining massage rear seats and leg rests. So if the price is right, I see this becoming something of a success.

If you had no idea that is was a Hyundai you would sware it was a LEXUS. The interior look like the same material as the last version of the LS.

This car has those dime a dozen headlights.
The Bentley Mulsanne's headlights are unique and won't be mistaken for all the generic crap on the roads.
In fact, the Bentley Mulsanne sitting next to the Lexus LS460 will make it look like a Corolla.

For what it is, a Hyundai, it moves them up a knotch in the appearance category. However, for somebody to believe this can compare to an S-class, LS or 7-series in quality or desireability knows zilch about this class of cars.

Not sure whether the front seats are pushed all the way back, but the rear seat legroom (9th pic from the top) looks kind of skimpy for the placement point of this vehicle.
Driver's cabin area (pic 5) looks very 'Lexus'. Glad there is no Hyundai badge on the steering wheel.

eh, I was gonna comment but then realized how pointless it was.
Everytime there's a Hyundai article posted the same people post their same, typical comments (fanboy this, hater that).

Stud. I don't think this car looks bad at all once the hood ornament is removed. It will make the lexus ls finally have something to truly compete against.
