Lexus Upstages Concours Weekend? New Frankfurt Concept Out Of The Bag And It's HOT!
When BMW announced the 1-Series coming to the USA, we predicted that every premium maker would have to get skin in the game and bring a competitor to the table.

Well Lexus isn't wasting anytime and is readying a killer concept for the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Here is the official sketch...So what's the word?

STUD or DUD?

So this is the direction their going with their compact... Hmmm? There's real potential here, but given that these types of renderings are extremely exaggerated in their 'sportiness', I'm going to hold off judgment until something materializes in the metal.

"When BMW announced the 1-Series coming to the USA, we predicted that every premium maker would have to get skin in the game and bring a competitor to the table."

The fact is that when BMW announced the 1er was coming to North America, the Audi A3, MB B-Class, Saabaru 9-2X, Volvo C30 and Acura CSX where already being sold in the US.

Talk about a predicition...

Since the introduction of the 1er, the only missing players are Caddy, Infiniti and Lexus.

I cant believe anybody boosted this silly ass post, since it really makes it look like you dont know what the hell youre talking about. All these are hatches, (2 of which arent even available here, and one has long been dead) whereas here in the US, the 1 series is not, ergo they aren't competitors. This means, for once, 001 is right; there aren't currently any direct foes for the 1 series, so it only makes sense for the wannabe's to scramble and build something to fight it.

The MB B-Class - in the U.S.? You might want to do some fact checking there.

Yeah... you don't get the B-Class in the US, we do in Canada. We've had the B-200 and B-200 Turbo for years.

For your information, the 1er is mostly sold as a 5-doors hatch in europe. It's been converted into a silly coupe because some narrow-minded americans think hatch=pizza delivery (unless it's jacked up in the air and called a SUV)

We all know a hatch suspended at 30 inches from the ground is a low-end thing made for poor people, but an hatch suspended at 60 inches gives you street cred and worth every penny !

We meant a small premium car with REAL engines/performance in them in our prediction.

Not economy car slowpokes.

Looks good. However, this is supposed to be a vehicle sold outside North America to meet demand for a smaller premium car.

I thought that the LF-A (or LF-L) would knock my socks off. Instead it looks like a dated design. Sorta like a poor-mans late 1990's Aston.

This car will be a failure. Premium compact sportshatch cars are mostly popular in Europe - where Lexus brand is complete failure.

In the first 6 months of 2009 Lexus sold 10,000 cars (-40%) only in the whole EU + Switzerland + Norway (total population: ~ 510 million).

Eg: BMW: 290k (-23%), MB: 304k (-20k), Audi: 327k (-5%), Jaguar: 15k (-27%) ... Even Porsche sells more cars in Europe than Lexus.

Europe doesn't want artificial luxury brands like Lexus, Infiniti, Acura. All it counts there in premium segment is authenticity of the brand.

it's a SKETCH. so far from reality and production that there's really no point in discussing.

Sketch looking very sporty only the front especially grille looking huge compare to headlights. A more proportionate look would be better.
