25 Models & 24 Months Later, Where Will GM Be?

25 Models & 24 Months Later, Where Will GM Be?
Are we through the woods yet?

After tough times and a disintegrating economy that deflated around the world, it seems we could have reached the end of the downturn. The glimmers of hope are appearing just about everywhere. Homebuilder’s confidence has risen, unemployment has rebounded from its endless plummeting and auto sales ticked over the 11 million mark for July. Whether it will last is another question.

And, it appears the economy is not the only thing rebounding; so is General Motors. Last week GM hosted an event to showcase their current and future products – and to gloat about the unprecedented fuel economy of the Chevrolet Volt.

After having the rare opportunity to visit GM’s design facilities and get a chance to see what the company has up its sleeves for the next 24 months, I have taken the time to reflect on what is in store for the troubled automaker. Now that its focus is solely on Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC, it appears that the manufacturer may have the opportunity to “get lean.”

The tour provided a rare and in-depth look into “the new GM,” and the beginning of what may be a rebound for a haggard Detroit...

Personally... I'm pretty optimistic regarding the American automotive market, especially those new Cadillac offerings.

If Cadillac provides the ATS with solid driving dynamics and a GREAT sounding motor, it will be a game changer.

Most likely you will see a lot of them around with HUGE rims, like Escalades.

What a ignorant statement. Do you see SRX or CTS models with HUGE rims? Showing your true color Agent.

Since when did this site get hypersensitive?

This is not a "knock" against the car, in fact, I was highlighting this car will be popular with modifications.

I do not know where you're from, Inspirion, but in the NY tri-state and LA -- where Cadillac has had success -- there are plenty of low-range models and high-end Cadillacs with rims. CTS and SRX included.

Crawl out from under your rock.

"but in the NY tri-state and LA -- where Cadillac has had success -- there are plenty of low-range models and high-end Cadillacs with rims" I'll second that. Here in NY its mostly CTS' and Escalades sitting on 21's and up.

Agent your statement as it seems and I really don't think I'm imagining that Cadillac and rims are code for ghetto. I don't think your first thought when Lexus mentioned the IS was, wow how will 21' look on that.To single out the brand as such sure is why I responded as such. I live in L.A. area and I see Lexus, Infiniti and various other brands cranked, rimmed and slammed. If I came off being too hard, then I will be more watchful in the future.

inspirion7.... its true the agent showed his true colors when he made that same statement evreyone else throws on American cars when they do well. What was really funy is the pathetic way how he tried to clean it up!

I feel the Volt has been so hyped that no matter what, when it comes out it will be slightly dissapointing. Every article about this car says it will save GM. It does this,it does that. Something will not be 100% perfect with this car and people are going to run with the fact its not what it was hyped to be. Other than that I think GM is doing a great job and currently offers great products,a lot of them being better than the competition

Hopefully GM will not go back to being a "numbers whore" and will learn to restrict their supply, and focus more on the quality of their products.

It has started all ready. GM has pulled rental vehicles from the lines and the La Crosse has been targeted for limited runs to increase overall resale value.

I wouldn't say it is mess but it is busy.

The new ATS that was shown cleans things up a lot. And, the CTS-V Coupe will most likely look cleaner and less busy. Compare the regular CTS' large grille to the smaller V's grille on the sedan variants. The V looks much better.

GM will be no where. None of the garbage 3 is even competitive.
