I would give a damn less about how many times it has been reposted as this gives us a warning about the dangers of the road.

A little dramatic. Yes i believe people should not be texting while driving, but it will happen. I think people should be allowed to use cell phones though. Less people would text. Using a navigation while driving is worse than using a cell phone and you wouldnt believe how many times i see cops on cell phones while driving, but i guess rules dont apply to them. Sometimes there is an emergency and you need to answer a phone or make a call. Pulling over on the highway and having someone hit your car or try to avoid you and crash is just as dangerous. There have been numerous reports of this happening. People pulling over to use cell phones and getting hit from the back which causes explosions and such. Its basically a lose lose situation. If talking on the phone is a distraction it can be argued that having the radio on or even having a passanger in the car can be a distraction. Than some might say its the whole having only one hand on the wheel issue. Ok,but than eating or drinking while driving should be illegal. I see people brushing their teeth, shaving and applying make up while driving.

In the Quebec province of Canada, using a cell phone while driving is prohibited, no word on texting tough.. I have a "corporative" blackberry and althoug I have an headset, I need to enter a password if the device been idle for mor than 25 minutes.. let me tell you, I almost ran in the back of a big rig while trying to unlock the damn device after a missed call, so texting is far more dangerous than speaking. While we're at it, smoking a cigarette or reader papers on heavy traffic is far more dangerous than speaking on the phone.

That's a specious argument. Nobody ever suggests you pull over on the shoulder of a freeway so you can answer that "emergency" call. What exactly are you going to do for this said emergency while on the phone, traveling at a high rate of speed? Most phones that receive calls allow you to make calls. Pull over at the next exit and call back! Or if you have the reasonable expectation that you may have to talk a passenger into landing a 747 (without a minute to spare) after the pilot has suffered a fatal heart attack, then buy a damned hands-free system for your car.
Also, these "numerous" cases of people pulling to the shoulder and getting rear-ended? Anecdotes. Very likely false, too, or so rare as to be meaningless--like the ones about people who could have survived a fiery crash had they not been trapped by their seatbelts.

Noone suggest you do it,but thats what people do. They pull over and use their phones. And there are numerous cases, google it.Also waiting to the next exit to make a call can sometimes be 15,20,30 etc min away in cases like upstate ny where exits are that far away from eachother. Some people live busy lives and travel for work and need to be on the phone constantly. Here is a small part of an article talking about why they banned cell phone usage.
Mr Joyce says allowing hands-free recognises that many business and trades people depend on being available on their cell phones for their livelihood, and that hands-free phones are less distracting to operate than handheld phones.
“However, I would still urge hands-free users to pull over to make or respond to calls whenever possible.”
Less distracting doesn't mean it is not a distraction anymore and it looks as if though they ARE urging people to pull over and respond to calls if you must.

Some more parts of different articles regarding the issue.
Telecom spokesman Mark Watts said every mobile phone is "equipped with fail safe technology - and that's the on/off switch".
He said Telecom encourages all its staff to pull over while making a call, even if they are using hands-free technology.
"I live in New York, where driving and using a cell phone is legal, but you must be using a hands-free device. The problem with the hands-free devices is that if the phone rings or you need to make a call, wrangling with the hands-free thing is more dangerous than simply picking up the phone!"
"It seems to me that cell phone users are not the worst offenders. Look at the cars you pass and count the folks reading books and papers propped on the steering wheel. Add to that the ladies who are applying makeup - particularly eye makeup - while moving at highway speeds on 540. How many of these same folks have a coffee cup in their hands? Breakfast? My favorites are the ones who are shaving or brushing their teeth while driving! Get up five minutes earlier, folks!
"I live in Washington, D.C., where it is banned. The rule is pointless. I am often passed by police who are driving while talking on their cell phones."

Well, props to the Ford sync system as it allows read backs of incoming texts and a half dozen or so canned answers (in traffic, be there in 20, etc.) that you can respond with from the steering wheel.
It needs more functionality liek voice to text for responses but for right now, they are far in the lead over the others.
Congrats Ford!

Wait, it says "18+ need to watch this" and it can happen to anyone driving a car as young as 16?? Did I miss something here. Screw that, I think this should be shown in Driver's Ed classes.
