REPORT: CARS To End Monday
The Obama administration plans to end the popular $3 billion Cash for Clunkers program on Monday, giving car shoppers a few more days to take advantage of big government incentives.

The Transportation Department said Thursday the government will wind down the program on Monday at 8 p.m. EDT. Car buyers can receive rebates of $3,500 or $4,500 for trading in older vehicles for new, more fuel-efficient models.

So all of that increase in production Ford and GM have implemented should hit the lot shortly after CFC ends. Brilliant! ;-)

By the time manufacturers get to ramping up production this new flood of autos coming from plants will be sitting on lots in a few months time.

Needless to say you will see this program come back, maybe with a broader spectrum of returns allowed and easier paperwork. Leave it to the government to screw things up again.

How many cars, SUVs, crossovers & minivans (not trucks) have been sold in 2009 qualify as "clunkers" from the MPG standpoint?
I personally bought a sedan that gets a combined 18mpg (qualifies as a clunker). The car I traded was worth $2300, got too good of MPG for this program. You would be terribly short sighted to think this program is making a difference environmentally. A select few benefited off your current tax dollars in exchange for destroying 1990's GDP.
