Mazda kills plans for a 300-hp Mazdaspeed3 Evolution

When the 2010 Mazdaspeed3 made its debut earlier this year in Geneva, we were pretty disappointed to see the same 260-hp 2.3L DISI Turbo 4-cylinder engine powering the “hot-hatch.” However, our depression came to rest when we learned that Mazda was working on a Mazdaspeed3 “Evolution,” a faster and more powerful version.

I love how they keep tyring to make the 3 series this pocket rocket while the RX8 "the sports car of MAZDA" is suffering. Can the RX8 get 300hp. Screw the rotary engine and but a turbo charged v6 in this thing so that Mazda can get the ZOOM ZOOM back in the RX8

The Mazdaspeed 3 is probably faster than an RX-8 lol. As for the 300hp. The current 280 hp can easily be modified to hit the 300hp mark with the addition of some enhancements.

I forgot to add that the entire 3 hatchback luneup should have an available AWD system. They took the 6speed motor but not the AWD, still a sore spot for me. I would have bought one if it offered it.

The speed 3 is faster than the 8,not around a track though. Than again the rx8 is faster than the miata,but i prefer to drive the miata. Point being,its all about feel,precision,response,smoothness,and fun factor,not 0-60 and 1/4 mile. If that was the case people would hate the miata and they dont.

Oh and Whelan is correct. I have seen the speed 3 with $2000 of work eat cars more than double its price.
