Forget about turbo lag! Bmw fills patent for an exhaust manifold to reduce it!
BMW has patented its creation of an exhaust manifold that works by ensuring that each turbo is given a burst of exhaust gas at even intervals – something that’s not normally possible on a twin-turbo V8 engine. BMW’s M performance division has devised this manifold that aids in reducing turbo lag.

Like every other turbocharged engine in the world, BMW’s N63 engine — the 400-hp 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 used in the X6 and 750i — suffers from turbo lag. The lag in BMW’s turbo engines, if compared to other brands, is minimal. If compared to normally aspirated engines though, the engine’s response to the accelerator pedal is less than immediate. BMW M engines have been known for their instant response as individual throttle bodies have been used to minimize the delay.

I owned a mazdaspeed6 for 3 years and let me tell you that there was turbo lag. Speed3 are worse, they have lag + torque steer.

yeah, you're right, no other manufacturers ever have used twin turbos on a "big" V8. BMW invented it, they were the first ever, long live BMW. Except of course for the fact that plenty of manufacturers have put turbos on big engines, including V8's (and V10's and V12's), and that 4.4L is not a "big" V8. Aside from those lapses in logic that make what you said totally false, you are totally correct.

There needs to be an IQ test on this site prior to be allowed to post, or some kind of "obvious troll test".

MSP6, Your absolutely right. Me and my buddy switch up cars every now and than. I remember when his car was stock turbo set up (speed 3) and my car was aftermarket turbo (rx8) we would always compare how his car has that annoying turbo lag,but the torque steer sucked. My 8 would spool up from way down low,due to the computer and i basically have everything i can minus internals. He soon upgraded some parts like intake,exhaust cobb ecu etc and the turbo lag was still there but it helped a lot.The torque steer is worse now with the extra power he has,but he was telling me something about bushings that'll help it.

The torque steer issue was not present in the speed6 thanks to the AWD. But that car was sooo heavy, especially in the front.

An AWD speed3 would have been the best of both worlds.

That being said, glad that BMW did not knock at Mazda's door to get some advice on turbo usage, as our friend Whore was suggesting.

Audi RS4 previously used a biturbo V6. The RS6 was a biturbo V8 before the current generation biturbo v10... 2 recent cars that come to mind.

What rock have you been living under Badgewhore?

EHm C5 RS6 = Twin Turbo V8
C6 RS6 = tt v10

s600 = tt v12

oh and not to mention the Ferrari F40 TT V8 = arguably one of the best Ferrari's EVER built.

P.S. There will be turbo lag in ANY Turbo Application, it's just a matter of pure physics. The turbo has to spool which uses waste exhaust which takes time to travel from the exhaust manifold to the spool, whether perceivable or not, it still exists. All a manufacturer can do is minimize it.

You are the first person I have ever heard say anything about torque steer causing accidents. No the not fun thing about torque steer is that you are always fighting the car. Would it be fun if a car had a seat that slides back and forth? Where every time you step on the gas you have to pull yourself forwards on the steering wheel? It is exactly the same concept. And if you think otherwise... well you're special and easily amused.

Files patent or "Fills" patent? (title)

Filing a patent does not equal to "something is patented".
It is a long process to obtain a patent in US (typically takes at least 3 years).

And you still can't write patent properly -one t only- plus patent certificate is redundant because the first certifies that you own the invention or whatever, which of course you already knew because you have 2 of them...

This manifold sounds like tuned headers, (equal length headers) this isn't rocket science, but congrats for them making improvements, turbo lag sucks.
