General Motors To Strip GM Logo From All Vehicles

General Motors To Strip GM Logo From All Vehicles
General Motors Co. is dropping the GM logo on its cars and trucks.

The badge is a small silver square with the blue "GM" embossed on it. It's usually on the lower edge of the front fenders.

"With the focus really turning towards our four core brands, the feeling was let's gradually get away from the GM logo," GM spokesman Pat Morrissey says. The logos will be removed gradually, but GM provided no timetable.

I liked the badge. Esp now as the "mark of excellence" re-emerges.

even more urgently, GM needs to DUMP the chevy bowtie and replace it with a more substantial looking logo.

nothing SCREAMS "this is a cheap car" more than the over simple bowtie. the sad attempts to make it LOOK more substantial with chrome extensions, halfway works, but with stubby wings on the cheapo models, it LOOKS EVEN WORSE.

AND i say this, having once been a chevy fan in my youth. (there were few competing imports then.)

I like the chevy bowtie, it's a very substantial logo. It looks strong, which is a lot more then many companies with there tiny chrome bars swooping into different shapes. What you seem to have in your mind is a bad image of the chevy brand, that is something no new logo can fix.

I wonder what they will save by getting rid of that little logo. I have always wondered when I see it on cars why they would put that there. Its not as if there is a Honda symbol on Acuras, or a toyota synbol on Lexus models.

They did that a decade ago with the first gen Aurora, and guess what ? No one go fooled. They better assume who they are instead of trying to hide like Hyundai's doing.

@XYZZ,

Louis Chevrolet's Bowtie will never go. Like it or not, that logo is as known as Nike's or Apple's logos. No need to write Chevrolet below it, people knows what it is. From a marketing perspective, this is priceless.

the GM logo has never been a problem, it was always the cars it was bolted to that sucked.

ALSO

i wonder if this PR spin will get more elaborate. any further clarification to this move will be funny and, well a load of sh--.

I think what GM is looking at is the fact that no other parent company sticks their logo on their different brands. Lexus' (Lexi??) don't have Toyota badges on them. Acuras don't have Honda badges. And Jaguars don't have Tata badges either. Though I kinda thought it was cool, there's no realy need for it.

This is such a dumb move. Anyone who is human knows what has happened to GM this past year. Dropping the emblem only shows they are embarassed. This is not how you move on.

GM went bankrupt and is synonymous with bad policies, so it's probably a good move. The new GM should change their name and cancel all their brands and start something new. It's the only way to get rid of the baggage.

They were small enough to not be as annoying as some media made them out to be.

Wow...GM is really doing some serious budget cuts by reducing the size of their ball...oh excuse me...logo.
