First Photo of Next Generation Toyota 4Runner

First Photo of Next Generation Toyota 4Runner
Toyota has released a photo that shows a glimpse of the upcoming 4Runner. While only a portion of the front of the SUV is visible, Toyota is going with a rugged off-road look with straight character lines compared to the current 4Runner. The released photo appropriately shows the new SUV doing some rock crawling, highlighting the fact that the 4Runner will remain a traditional off-road worthy SUV and not a city worthy crossover. Expect more information in the near future.

One of the biggest issues that I'm having with Toyota designs lately are all those silly looking bulging headlights/taillights. Why? To me they just look like big warts sticking out from the car. This new 4Runner looks like it's just going to be another slab-sided, bland looking truck-based SUV introduced by Toyota in a market that is quickly moving towards car based utlity vehicles.

Toyota has plenty of car-based utility vehicles already. The 4Runner is a staple for the Toyota brand, so I don't understand why they would not make another one.

I agree with you about the styling though. This is only a tidbit, but it looks like a step backwards in terms of design.

Hooray for truck based SUV!!! some of still off-road and the selection is getting smaller and smaller. Monytz81 if you want a real off-road SUV go with a Jeep. even a current model Grand Cherokee, is far more sophisticated then any off-roader at that price.

Invisible

I do (I had five of them) still closer to truck based suspension and drive train set up.

There are new photos of the 4Runner and it doesn't look as offroady as I thought it would.

Get an Xterra, more capable SUV for a much cheaper price. 4Runner is way overpriced

Seems toyota's recalls are mounting. Xterra is a fantastic vehicle

From what we can see, the design already looks dated.

Or in European terms, classic.

Not an improvement, prefer the 4th Gen T4Rs.
This looks like bloated decomposed carcass about to explode.

I like what I see from the Car and Driver spy shots. Looks modern to me.

Lets hope it has a better reception in Texas that the Tundra. That was like a Bush moving to Harlem.

Funny. I wish I could say it's not true, but the self-designated "Texas Truck of the Year" reviewers have never given the Tundra respect.

Visiting Texas twice this year, I notice a number of Tacomia's, few 4Runners and fewer Tundra's, but of course, Texas is the truck capital of the world. My fiance's sister has a Excursion, and with that thing, you felt safe from all the trucks around on the road. I've never seen so many trucks and I'm sure moving there I will end up purchasing one maybe a F-150.

Texas is truck capital of the world? Hmm no they come in a close second, Alberta Canada has a higher concentration (about 50%)

I agree. those lights (also in other Japanese cars and trucks) are hideous. They look like bug's eye.

I'm not impressed. But then again I have neverbeen impressed with a 4Runner since the 1989 version appeared. And even then, I stopped liking them after 1992 when the facelift versions came out. Toyota also needs to step into the 21st century and offer the damn thing with 4 wheel discs.

Ugh, the 4runner still looks like an adolescent that has not grown into his/her looks. The Frontrunner sold in other countries look so much better. Keep trying Toyota.

At least Toyota is trying to market there stuff as something that you could take it off road, unfortunately I just don't buy the whole idea, I would be sold on it if this one in the photo was there street friendly version and the off road package would consist of 35 x12.5 -17 with 14 inches plus inches of usable wheel travel, preferably 18 inches, Ford sort of did it with the Rapture F-150. It also needs a real bumper, look at the abuse this princess has been subjected to.lol

It looks like a giant Rav 4. I'll pass.

Makes me wanna go out and find a clean late 90's/early 2000's 4Runner.
