New Photos: Has Hyundai Just Run Over The Competition With The 2011 Sonata?
The long anticipated 2011 Hyundai Sonata (to be named i40 in Europe) has finally arrived! Ahead of its official Korean unveiling, scheduled for the first week next month, we are bringing you the very first images of a completely undisguised next-generation Sonata sedan. The images preview Sonata’s front, side and rear-end styling, as well as provide us a sneak peak preview of Sonata’s modern cabin lay-out.

As expected, the all-new Sonata is a looker and most definitely the most appealing and attractive vehicle Hyundai has ever built! The all-new four-door sedan embodies Hyundais so-called “fluidic” design language, which has been first introduced with ix-onic concept car in Geneva and later, just a few weeks ago as a matter of fact, with production-ready Tucson crossover.

Someone at Hyundai needs to be fired for ripping off other car companies.

Is it just me...or do the Asain car manufacturers specifically target and copy vehicle design ques of cars in which they are trying to breach that market. It makes good sense since a potential customer could look upon what they offer and say "hey...that looks just like 'such n such' and it's much cheaper". To me..that's the same as buying some knockoffs in China Town rather than putting up the cash for original. Nothing wrong with that...but as far as originality goes...Hyundai is still playing a losing game.

I think you mean the Koreans specifically since they're the upstart companies or the underdogs if you will.

I will give you that the front looks like an ES330 but I think the back looks pretty original. It does look like it will have a MB CLS/Lexus ES look to it. now we have to remember these cars have to stand up to the test of time if they want to really compete with these luxury car companies.

The real criticism will come after these cars have been in production for about 2-4 years or so.

Its a nice looking car. The problem again is that its not very original I have seen that design on plenty other cars, but i mean they are just trying to get started with their new look, im not saying that its justifiable but I hope that in the future they start coming up with their own ideas because copying styling cues will get old. Then again it is an asian manufacturer and most, not all, of those manufacturers copy other car brands and sell their stuff cheaper. I still think they should change the name to something else, not hyundai, and start clean if they want to be taken seriously. At the moment I would not think of hyundai if I was in the market for a bmw or mercedes, I still put hyundai in the same level of a honda and a toyota and thats really strectching it, but hyundai has proven itself over the last few years that is why I compare them to those manufacturers.

I think the design is pretty original maybe just the profile and back end match some other cars but overall quite original and way better looking than it's current competitors.

Also i see paddle Shifters and night vision in that speedometer photo, Hyundai putting so much technology in a car of this class. Great. Good job Hyundai. Hyundai seems unstoppable.

For it's intended market/class, the design execution of this 2010 Sonata is so far ahead of the competition as too render comparisons essentially moot. It's more elegant, stylish, and dramatic (both inside and out) than anything in the category, regardless of the few 'derivative' design elements that many seem so quick to point out. Personally, I think it's strikingly beautiful, and provided the mechanicals are well-matched to the visuals presented here, this will be a complete game-changer for the mid-sized family sedan in America. Fantastic Job Hyundai!

It LOOKS good. But looks don't count in this segment. steeply raked windshield, coupe like profile, sloping trunk...these design cues don't lend themselves to practicality. hello MB CLS. If yundai has magically found a way to merge style with roominess and practicality, they may have a hit. I'm skeptical.

Should do well with people shopping for a lower level sedan.

wow... I don't know why their stocks are still so low. Maybe they just didn't get a chance to prove their long-term dependability.

The Sonata retails starts at $18,000 right now. If they can build this new car in the same price range bring it on.

The second picture looks to be the actual production version, which looks like a Toyota Solara. The rest is Passat CC dead on. Overall this is a very nice package, and something different in the segment. However looks aren't everything, just remember.

Lets give 009 a hand. A hyundai article that does not mention Lexus in the title. Great job 009. I see that 10 step program is working!

It looks nice but i question the need for a "4 door coupe" in the mass market family sedan segment. Only time will tell if people gravitate to it.

You guys have brought up a good point. It is a very good looking compared to its competitors, camry, accord, etc. If you CAN get this car for less than 20,000 then yes it will definetely make toyota and honda sweat. Beautiful? I dont think so, its a very good looking car but I consider beautiful something like the Alfa Romeo 8C, but it is a good looking car for that price, assuming that 20 grand would be the actual base price.

Very nice looking. But then, so was the CLS that the design was obviously based on.

Quoting DaHarder: "I think it's strikingly beautiful, and provided the mechanicals are well-matched to the visuals presented here, this will be a complete game-changer for the mid-sized family sedan in America. Fantastic Job Hyundai!"

Indeed it is. Love Hyundai or hate the brand this company is the 4th largest automotive manufacturer in worldwide sales. They are serious players. Some may not see or agree with that reality. The upcoming 2011 redesigned Sonata will be a big hit here in the U.S.

There is truly nothing like it in its category plus they have more new fresh product in the pipeline than the two leading Asian import brands that they are competing against. I have read where the head of Toyota has stated Hyundai is the brand they fear the most, perhaps, those who doubt need to go and read the reasons why he made that admission.

Hyundai has definitely brought their A game.

Looks like a lexus/BMW/merc..

The chief designer for Hyundai is not Korean, he's either American or European, and he certainly has no original ideas of his own..

too bad it DOESNT look like anything in its class right now.

Mazda? Where?

Lexus? no not really.

the only thing i will agree with are the cc and a little bit of the solora.

other than that, this car is going to be big. i already want it. great job Hyundai! First the Genesis sedan and coupe, then the Tuscon, now the Sonata! Keep em coming!

Next one we should see should be the Veloster and the new accent(?)!
