Bugatti customer sues the company for failure to deliver
A Bugatti customer from Canada filed a suit against the car company for failure to deliver the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Coupe in Italian Red paintjob that he paid $1.55 million for. Barry Zekelman went to a Bugatti dealership in Troy, Michigan, and after picking out the car he wants, made an advanced payment of $427,935 in September 2008. Three months later, he wired the remaining $1,125,419 into Bugatti Troy’s bank account. The money then got forwarded to Bugatti USA, which also forwarded them to Bugatti S.A.S. On December 23, 2008, Zekelman got an email informing him that his request could not be fulfilled and that Bugatti Troy is offering him a 2008 Bugatti instead.

The customer is in the right. Bugatti owe him either an 09 car or a refund. Since he's getting niether, he has a right to sue.

I ordered an '09 car (BMW 335i) back in December 2008. I got an 09 three months later. If the dealer had turned to me and told me I could only have an 08 at the same price and no, you can't have your money back, I would sue too.

Bugatti or Kia, it doesn't matter.

When you're paying that kind of money for a car you have every right to get what you paid for or ordered. While ridiculous sounding if I was shelling out that kind of coin for a car you better be sure I'd be getting EXACTLY what I wanted.

You have to have brass balls to drive a $1.5M foreign car in Michigan right now. What is the unemployment rate in Michigan - something like 15%+. Lucky he didn't get the car.

And this is why... he will now start riding BMWs, MB, and Lexus.

Forget about that shitty nuclear reactor on 4 wheels. That is what the Bugatti is. It is just good for drag... nothing else.

If the world wasn't round and a completely square, maybe that car would have made sense. That car sucks in cornering.

Who pays in full before delivery? I thought deals like this typically use a third party escrow service to protect the buyer's cash while guaranteeing that the seller will be paid. He might want to consult a business advisor before his next $1M purchase.

@pcar4evr: The guy doesn't have to worry about that. He lives in Canada.
