AUTO SPIES EXCLUSIVE: Why on earth would Lexus feature this review on their website?

We were alerted by one of our astute readers (Dan) to a possible marketing and PR faux pas on the Lexus website.

In the area 'Road test' of the Lexus IS section they have picked a review of the IS from the independent website newcartestrive.com.

Nothing wrong with that, right?

The whole idea is to promote positive reviews of this car against their competitors.

Well, we all know the main competition for the IS is the BMW 3-series.

So why on earth would Lexus post a review on their own website that says their car is good, but not AS good, as the 3-series?

Here is the exact quote:

'The all-new Lexus IS models are a quantum leap forward for the Lexus brand in terms of cutting-edge style and higher levels of performance. But BMW still has an edge when it comes to claiming itself the ultimate driving machine.'

See the quote for yourself here

Now THERE's an endorsement!

If I were the BMW PR guys I would put this on their site in their list of reviews saying: 'Even Lexus believes the 3-series is still the king!'

Because Lexus gets excited just getting mentioned in the same sentence as BMW.

Good point.

Removing the emotion is what Lexus owners thrive at.

You can buy a Lexus with your head, but your heart will always be left out in the cold.

First of all spies, what's the use of pubishing this topic. What message do u want to convey....what r u trying to tell us that BMW is better than Lexus and this is what even Lexus seiors says and accept.
Lexus or Toyota don't have the potential what BMW or Bentley etc have????

Don't distract people by typing 1 part of the story and hidding the other.

I am sure Lexus's seniors has not said anything about 3 series being better than IS.
By saying this they have surrendered them to BMW, which will never happen till the the last day. After all Lexus is Toyota's Child THE KING.

And plz note my point "Lexus and it's parent company has the potential to make cars even better than BMW,MB,Rolls royce,Bentley,Lamborghini,Ferrari...etc"
but there r not making it becoz they know that there r not many coustomers and sales in that section/class and they would only end up selling a few thousand like what other companies r doing by makin 1.Example how much cars Rolls royce or Bentley sell in a year.Toyota don't want to be like them.

So they thought why not make our enormous energies and capabiliies flow in other direction from which,

we will be:

1)Known and recognized by everyone
2)Liked by everyone
3)sell tons and tons of cars
4)have hugeeee profits and earnings
5)increase marketshare

etc etc etc

DON'T DOUBT ON TOYOTA/LEXUS OR JAPAN'S CAPABILITIES.THEY CAN MAKE OUT THEIR OWN ROCKETS,SPACE SHUTTLES,HUGE SHIPS,JET FIGHTERS...ETC IF THEY WANT TO.

Cars are not a big job in front of them,In factories only robots make their cars they just pour a little of there unique engineering onto it and then the cars become super hit.

They always make good products that's the main issue/SCHEME after that they go for their profits, coustomer satisfication and sevices.

I think some folks are reading too much into that one line "BMW still has an edge when it comes to claiming itself the ultimate driving machine." It simply means if you're looking for something that can call itself "the ultimate driving machine," the BMW 3 series *EDGES* out the Lexus. That is to say that the BMW does not stand out head and shoulders above the crowd -- it is a *bit* better, and we recognize that. In other respects, fit, finish, luxurious appointments, the Lexus is comparable, or maybe even a bit preferred by some folks to the BMW.

The article seems to say that if you want the "ultimate" in handling, the BMW 3 is the way to go. But if you are prepared to forgo a tiny bit of that (the "edging out" by BMW), Lexus may offer you some things that BMW doesn't. Like much better defect numbers, an interior that doesn't look cheap, and possibly exterior styling that is considered more attractive to you than BMW's. And that's all good, as far as I can see.
