Just Fugly? Did Honda Really Blow It With The Accord Crosstour?

Just Fugly? Did Honda Really Blow It With The Accord Crosstour?
There haven’t been many new models that have stirred the ire of the internet as quickly as Honda’s Accord Crosstour. The crossover made its official internet debut yesterday on a number of blogs, including this one, Facebook and on Honda’s official website. The internet is an open forum, and people weighed in immediately with almost universal disapproval of the car’s design. Namely its ungainly front end.

We talked to Honda spokesman Chuck Schifsky about the reaction and if Honda might consider something as radical as reworking the grille.

“We’re confident with the styling,” Schifsky said. He suggested that people need to see the Crosstour in person and on the road before leveling criticism. He also said that it’s a little bigger than the Accord, so possibly the larger grille won’t seem so off-putting in person.

Eww a Honda Venza

I like it! It looks way better than the RX from lexus!!That RX is the real modern day Aztec. Look at a photo of each right next to each other. The RX has Way Way more resemblance to the Aztec than anything else does right now. Anyway, I like it by default compared to the Rexus.

Yes, it is HIDEOUS. They decided that the front end of the Venza was cool (makes me want to puke when I see , Honda) and then decided they could even make it better by making it look like a new Aztec.

I see Honda trying to emulate the new Taurus grille and failing miserably.

This is just as FUGLY as Acura's new crossover. Both of them will go down the drain quickly.

I hope that they scrap the whole thing, and just bring over the Accord wagon.

Heh, This IS the Accord wagon. I like it, and would happily own one.

Who is the head of Honda/Acura design? Why does he have a job?

Of all the cost-savings... how did they manage to install a completely different set of headlights, foglights, grilles, bumpers from that of the sedan or coupe?!

Is not a big Deal, BMW already lead this pack destroying the 5 series style.

Hmm, it looks vaugely FX-ish, but with a strongly conservative design overall, which gives it a dull appearance (which seems to Honda's trademark, save for the U.S accord coupe). I don't like the look of this myself, however I'd predict that it'll sell like hotcakes ;)

Personally, I find the Honda Crosstour to be one of the single most disjointed/incoherent automotive designs of the last 20 years. The stance, proportion, surface detailing... Just Everything is unappealing and amateuristic on every level. Not one single element of the exterior appears to have any visual relationship to any other in my assessment, and given the latest stream of highly questionable designs coming from Honda these days (CR-V, Accord, Ridgeline, TL, MD-X, et al.) they surely must be selling vehicles based on their reputation for quality alone. To call this (lack of) effort aesthetically unfortunate would be far too kind.

I think the grille is same as in the all new for 2009 Honda City. It's very huge and ugly. I think the inspiration for front end was a donkey.

Oh and another thing.

Since this Honda gets 16/22 mpg, does that mean it qualifies for cash for clunkers as a trade in if Obama ever decides to run that taxing program again?

Again, people who criticize Honda styling do not buy Honda to begin with. People buy Honda do not care about styling. Pilot is a perfect example. That was no other way to explain that. I gave up long ago.

I've had a Honda of one form or another in my garage since around 1985. So I feel compelled to say: "What the hell were you thinking, Honda?". Cripes, its terrible looking. Take that and the ZDX and toss them in the same abyss with the dead transformers. The Ridgeline is a beauty queen compared to that eyesore and its fugly all by itself.

Honda...WTH were you thinking??? The general of this design is Frickin Fugly...So Fugly it makes the Chevy Volt look better.

This is serious uglyness. We'd be unfair to not critize it after what we did to the Aztec.
