Official: Bmw X1 production has started!
While BMW’s X1 vehicle has yet to be publicly unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the company has received plenty of pre-orders. Official introduction had been scheduled for October 24 but BMW had already started production of the vehicle at the Leipzig plant in Germany. European stores should start receiving the model in a few weeks.

At full capacity, the Leipzig plant is building 730 vehicles per day with 75 of them being the new X1. With the high demand, BMW plans to boost production of the X1 by the end of the year to 300 units per day.

So the X3 is the size of a Saturn VUE/CR-V/Rav 4 pretty much. So the X1 would be what? How much smaller could you make an SUV. Although i guess the Suzuki X-90 and Geo/Chevy Tracker would be comparable.

As we've discussed here previously, the X1 is about the size of the existing X3. The new X3 will grow to be about the size of the old (two-row) X5.

This all came about because BMW didn't want to call the new (three-row) X5 the X7 since they didn't want to add all of the 7-series goodies and push the price into the 7-series stratosphere where the X6 already lives.
