Pininfarina Brings Sexy Back To Maranello, The 458 Italia, Real-Life Shots
Late last week, new photos of Ferrari’s latest mid-engined sex machine hit the web. Now there is a clearer picture, no pun intended, of what the 458 looks like.

Let us take a closer look at the latest from Maranello. As Ferrari’s F430 becomes outdated, with similar styling to the F360 Modena, there was only one way to go with the all-new 458; where Pininfarina had never gone before.....

Hmm. Kinda disappointed. Looked better in CG.

I think the problem is that the CG hides the huge panel gaps that clutter up the front you see in the real-life photo. Fooled me too.

Stunningly beautiful! I am glad they changed the blunt front end of the previous car. This car is as sexy as the truly great older Ferrari's of the 50's and 60's. The interior is all business and I love it. I like what appears to be an intregrated rear wing coming from the light housing toward the center of the car with vents front and back. The rear shows a perfect balance of functional aerodynamics, housing a world-class engine, and gorgeous overall form and proportion.

Plaudit for Ferrari, joined by LEXUS, not going for cheap, convenient twin turbo.

Go NA!

Its nice, beautiful free-flowing lines, but I do not get the title. "Pininfarina Brings Sexy Back to Maranello"? I don't remember seeing a car from Maranello lacking that quality lately...

California? 430?

The California is without a doubt a disproportionate vehicle and the 430 lost the sensuality the 360 started with.

this car is just gorgeous from every angle....

Odd rear, but it's a huge improvement over previous models. I saw a 599 the for the first time a few days ago near a McDonald's, and I just barely took notice.

Again, odd rear, but the front really has a presence and is still recognizable as a Ferrari.

Sorry but I have to say it is one very UGLY car. I can't belief I just say this to a Ferrari. The current F430 is is way Better looking. What happen to all the concept Ferrari they have the Ferrari Student design last year?

Its nice, but I think it will better in other colours like silver, grey, black or navy blue..Which is a problem, because ferraris should look their best in red..plus I think it needs the Challenger rims from the 599GTB..

It may look good in silver. Darker colors will hide this car's lines and I am not sure with such a curvy shape that any buyer would want that.

Although I am not a fan of Fly Yellow, I wonder what this would look like in it.

Whenever a new Ferrari model comes out some people complain because it doesn't look like the previous ones. This is called evolution of design.
I like the 458 very much.

Its the headlights.

Once you get past them and their long LED trail, I think you will soon appreciate the 458.

This is not a car...This is a dream. There is nothing on the earth with a better aerodynamic package next to a full race car. There is nothing on earth that will have a sweeter exhaust note there is nothing on earth this refined. THIS CAR HAS NO DIRECT COMPETITION NOTHING will handle better, look better, turn better, brake better or go as fast with as much ease on the everyday driver, not a race car driver mind you.

They have made something closer to perfect and now have a true 7 speed double clutch gearbox with MUCH longer lasting wet clutches and faster gear shifts. They have more down force, more stability, better handling and lighter weight when all other cars are getting heavier. The maintenance on this car will be only 11 hours within the first 3 years of ownership instead of 50 like Ferrari's of recent past.

Bellisimo!

I ONLY CARE ABOUT THE FERRARI'S

I think the front end is awkward especially headlights and big opening in the bumper. Rest is very nice though. Can't wait to see it in person.

Love the front half, nose is nice evolution, but I don't find the rear appealing at all.

Like many other cars, perhaps we will all make better assessments once we see this car in person. Personally I have loved and loved driving the 355 & 360. Haven't driven the 430 but its just as lovely. This car might have to grow on us a bit... One thing I am convinced however, is that this car is a dream to drive and listen to.

The back end is a massive fail. Actually so is the front ebd! Ferrari's design quality has gone massively downhill between this model and the California.

The only hang-ups that I have is that the DLO appears to be slightly too large vertically (at the expense of a more aggressive looking profile- I daresay it borders on being "cute" the way it is) and the interior...well...it looks like something from HALO.

I can find absolutely NO JUSTIFICATION for 3 exhaust outlets. Seems like something Mitsubishi would do as a gimmick...but Ferrari?!

Anyone know if there is ANY practicality behind this?

FanboyOfTheTruthFanboyOfTheTruth - 9/3/2009 2:33:11 PM

The 3 exhaust outlets are Ferrari's way of saying "if we can't match the Lexus LF-A in performance, at least we must match them in the number of exhaust pipes!". They succeeded in doing the same to the California, which managed to match the IS-F.

;)

There is, it is a 12-6-3 exhaust setup, it's pretty much the same resonance setup as most 4 cylinder engines... only repeated 3 times. If anything 3 exhaust outlets make much more sense then trying to create a resonant frequency pattern out of 6 cylinder pulses into each.

joe limon---that makes sense if it was a v12...I thought its a v8??

the exhaust is kinda weird. three pipes in a row? really? that's kinda weird, like an LF-A rip off but not in a triangle stack. And the vents beneath the taillights another rip off from the LF-A. I'm not hating on Ferrari but you look at ferrari and say they are supposed to set the standard, not copy off other cars that aren't even out yet. So now we'll see when the LF-A comes out people will say it copied off this thing in the rear with the radiator vents beneath the tail lights and the three pipe center exhaust. The 430 actually looked good, this thing? The front doesn't go with the back, the only way it looks good is the side. Those headlights are way too big. Besides that you can expect some good performance, as always from ferrari, but looks aren't on the good side.

Stared at the photos again for another 15 minutes, and try as I might, I still can't justify the rear design - simply not as "beautiful" as the front. I'm sure they serve some very hi-tech purpose, but the front 3/4 is both functional and hot, whereas the rear seems to lack the panache of the front. I'm a Porschephile myself, so I'm looking at this purely from a design standpoint. I loved the F430 immediately when it was released, but this will take some time.

I just at least wished they had quad tail-lights (two on each side), then I'd like a little more.
