Images Of 2010 Toyota 4 Runner: DUD or STUD?
Images have been leaking out all over the net of late when it comes to the 4 Runner. Reviews have been mixed. The ones offered on Burlapps website have been the best I've seen so far, not saying they are the official released images. What's your take? Is the design cutting edge, or like Vince believes, the design is down the drain? Your thoughts.

Looking like baby sequoia. Very tough looking. Nice.

It really does look like a 3/4ths scale of the Sequoia. But it looks as if Toyota really didn't know what to do with it. They took a big financial hit with their large trucks & SUVs due to the economy. They still sell a good amount of 4-runners and they had to do some updates b/c it was getting old.

Wow, they didn't screw it up (unlike a lot of automotive rededesigns lately, the new Prado) Looks refind and tough. I hope it's still a real off-road vehicle.

Not really sure what to think.

Wish they utilized more creativity. Fender flares/bumps remind me of GMC's Terrain.

I just leased a 2010 Cadillac SRX because I got hit by a numb nut that ran a red light and wiped out my car and therefore the Toyota is a dud.

The 4Runner is too tall and tippy.

Yes, listen to EL34, his statement was completely logical and makes sense.

You just bought a balloon with a chassis in side way to go. Go ahead and spend more than what you have since its the american way.

I jumped the gun and lied a bit.

I didn't lease the 2010 Caddy SRX, but I was very close.

I may still lease the RX350.

:-D

Dud. If they want the 4Runner to retun to former glory, make the retro design akin to the 1989 'Runner and trust me, it will return.

Rugged yet safe design, looks like smaller Landcruiser now.

DUD

Some Pros:
Tailgate still goes up not sideways.
Rear window control still there.
Signals in rear view mirrors.
Courtesy light in rear view mirrors.
Still with 6-lug wheels.
HID might be available.

Some Cons:
Keeps getting bigger, obesity epidemic.
Ground clearance appears lower.
Radio Antenna in fender.
V8 might not be available, therefore less towing capacity.
Navigation screen moved to a lower position in the dashboard.
Mutant offspring of a FJ Cruiser and a RAV4?
Sequoia Minime?
Morphing to a Honda Pilot?

It's a truck based SUV, but Toyota really missed a chance to innovate.

It looks like a mix of something Kia would design with some type of retro look to it. Its not bad,but not marvelous either.I like the fact it grew in size.

Nothing against the F-150 Rapture (othere than it's a Ford) but do you know anything about Toyota and off-road?!?!?!
And yes, the new 4-Runner will be a better off-raod vehicle than the one it replaces; KDSS, Crawl Mode, Multiterrain ABS, things that other brands only dream about but can't put into production.
Looks wise, I like it; strong stance. But looks is subjective, which seems to escape most minds

I have owned a 1993 4-runner, aside from it being under powered and tippy I liked it, this new thing is a nice car but the off road ability is all but lost here, I know they will market it like it is some king off road, but come on look at the low profile tires and the running boards, ugly and no off road performance at all! the suspension sucks up front! They should make a real off road package like the Ford Rapture, it'll never happen!

looks good and what idiot said thats its bad because its truck based! Toyota has enough car based SUV's, damn people are dumb on this site!

So they gave it the previous generation Tundra headlights leftover after the re-design. Then added 18" chrome rims to make it less off-roadable (word?) Finally threw on taillights that were made by the FJ Cruiser team. Fail.

Have to see it in person.

looks sweet the roof is nice, overall it has a more muscular apperance, and it's toyota reliability. There probably isn't much better. And whoever said up above that the off-road capabilities are weak needs to go back and drive his wanna be off roading ford explorer. Compare this to any other vehicles in it's class and the 4Runner has always been a constant performer. The losers at car magazines rate these type of suvs based off their comfort and features and how they ride on the road. Lets not forget these are SUVS. The only reason they are watered down for the road is because well, people like some of the one's on here who buy cadillac SRXs and Ford Explorers and Cadillac Escalades, they aren't true off road vehicles, but Soccer mom and Playa wanna-be mobiles. I didn't know Chrome wheels made the car bad, I guess the Escalade should get rid of them along with the SRX and the coutnless other SUVS with them, since they are tacky.

If I tried to take this princess off road to some of the areas I hunt I would destroy the pretty running boards, rocker panels, the front air dam and fog lights under the front bumper would be torn off, and does it still have a locking transfer case? Its scary that I would even be asking these questions, and you are right, the auto mags will be rating this vehicle with the Caddy... this is no different other than I am assuming it would still have the same fully boxed frame? I have owned a modified 1993 4runner and taken it almost anywhere as long as the little 3L engine didn't run out of power, of course that has been fixed, but low profile tires don't work off road, you need at least 8 inches min.of rubber under the rim so a 20 inch rim would be ok with 36inch tires, although not ideal, since this princess has 18 inch rims it should have a min. of 34inch tires, this one would damage the rims driving over a curb, sad.

So which is it? I've heard every opinion here, and the consensus is: that there is no consensus. Is it too rugged, or is it an urban princess?

This is a princess! I like the Nissan xterra better because it has a little more off road ability.

If You like this for its road manners I can understand, the part I don't like is that they try to sell this as an off road vehicle, and this is the part that I can't agree upon.
