Next Generation 2012 Audi A6 (C7)

Next Generation 2012 Audi A6 (C7)
A quick shout out to WCF reader Teg, for sending us a tip about the next generation Audi A6 mule caught testing in Romania. The C7 A6 is rumored to be released January 2011, if Audi is still sticking to the previously leaked Roll Out Schedule.

Teg's net friends at clubaudi.ro spotted the A6 mule in Iasi, Romania, where the car tends to make a local home at the Continental Engineering Centre before being sent off to other facilities.

The C7 A6 should get the next generation Aluminum Steel Space Frame, which will help the car shed a significant amount of weight, while increasing rigidity by nearly 50%. This will improve performance, and likely decrease fuel consumption.

No offense but does anyone really need spyshots to figure out what any new Audi will look like???? Take a look at the current model add an A5 front end and rear which essentially a restyled version of the same desighn they have had for years, and voila a new Audi. Its getting old and predictable.....I mean really, bland desighns and big grills that look like a simple refresh of the previous generation...how creative

I guess old & predictable (not unlike your comments) is what's working for them.

Just because "it's working" doesn't mean they need to keep doing it. Maybe some bolder and differentiated styling will work as well?

If you think the 7 series looks like the 5 series or the 3, or the 1, or the 6, then you need glasses -_-

On the other hand, the Audi A4,A5,A3, A6, A8,Q5!, All share the same front end!

The picture above has been around for months (Road & Track or Motortrend, I forget). Looks nice though.

I strongly doubt that's anything but a previous-generation A6 with wider wheels and large fender arches riveted on.

Audi has no production lines in Romania, their closest plant is some 600 miles west (in Gyor, Hungary) and, on top of that, there is no test facility anywhere near where this picture was taken (that looks like the back of one of the airport buildings in Bucharest).

There is absolutely no reason that I can think of for an Audi prototype to be that far away from their home base. There is nothing special in the area that could help with any kind of testing: the roads are generic, the climate is generic, really, nothing special.

Looks to me like a mechanically-inclined Ingolstaedter tried really hard to make his 3.2 V6 look like a 4.2 V8.

The caption says it's a test mule. Assuming for a second that it is a test mule. When a manufacturer creates a "mule" they mate the underpinnings of a new model (usually chassis, engine, drivetrain) to the body of an old or existing body to mask its true identity. That's why this "new" A6 looks like the current item. Assuming, of course that it is a test mule. I have no proof that it is or isn't.

finally, a comment by someone that has sense. everyone else is saying it looks the same like we've never seen test mules before.

I get the idea of a test mule, really!

That is however a pre-2009 A6. The drivetrain has received major modifications for 2009 that will be carried over to the next model.
It would make no sense to squeeze a modified 2009 drivetrain into a 2008 body for purposes of testing a 2011 configuration. If it were indeed a prototype drivetrain, it would either be wrapped in a 2009-2010 body or the panels would be fitted a lot less neatly.

The bottom line is, that's very unlikely to be a test mule.

This is simply a 3 year old photoshop of the C6 Audi A6 with some fender flares and a revised front end with the LED headlights.

The REAL A6 will be much better looking.
