STUD OR DUD? 2010 Toyota 4Runner Photos Surface
Agent009,

I just ran across these shots of the upcoming Toyota  4Runner  while cruising the net and thought your readers would like to "Stud or Dud" them.

Personally I like the new look  but my wife says it is only a face a mother could love!

Thanks,
Roadkill

I'm not much into pickup trucks.

I'm sure it's a stud.

Hummer called, they like their fenders back.

Seeing the first photo I liked it but with more angles, it just looks derivative and chunky---Dud.

yeah really....theoptimisticpessimist....and the designers of the 2002 avalanche are suing you for the body cladding rip off....what the hell was toyota thinking they took the oh so infamous card board box and try to re-design it into a truck....compared to this model i love the previous model to me this looks like A$$

I like it, its an suv that looks like an suv not a raised wagon, it just doesnt look like something that would be coming out in 2010 maybe early 90s, otherwise stud kinda reminds of an old landcruiser.

REPOST

but STUD

probably the best real 4WD truck-based SUV in that price range.
I'm far from being a toylex fanboy, but when Toyota does something good, I won't deny it.

Its a stud if you want an suv for highway trips with the odd trip down a gravel road, but if you want something with off road ability this is a DUD.

4Runners are quite capable off-road, and they always have been.

Could you explain how these low profile tires are going to take this 4-runner off road, How about the limited wheel travel in the front, I have owned a 1993 with the 31in tire package, unfortunatly the engine couldn't push the tires in the heavy snow or sand and hill climbs were scary with the lack of power, On the plus side with the older 4-runners I put in an old man emu articulation kit to achieve 15in. of rear wheel travel, stock was an impressive 11ish and 12 with longer shocks, unfortunately the front suspension was the downfall of the vehicle, and still is, it lacks front wheel travel! The current front suspension would be better suited in a Camry, or maybe it is the same? I know this would be great if you modified it when Total Chaos made a long travel kit for this and added lockers...$$$$$ Why couldn't they come stock like this!

Could all the deboosters defend your arguments? I am not upset or I have no desire to name call or anything, I would rather debate your opinion, I hope that you have an informed opinion and not a blind emotional opinion.

Egad... what the hell is that!

Looks like the boxy look of the early 80's is back and in fine form at Toyota!!!!

Nah, definitely an absolute dud. I am sure it will sell well in the US, but I can't image it being too well received beyond those shores.

truckman have you looked at the ford explorer lately? tell me about that one, or now look at the 22inch wheels on the escalade. How are they going to go offroading with those low profile tires? Get real, this is the first shots of the new 4Runner, how about letting it hit the streets and dealerships first, I'm sure Toyota will have an off-roading package for it. Never heard of the TRD off-road package either? How about the Land Cruiser being the SUV of choice for the UN? You don't think Toyota know how to do offroad? You must not be serious.

Freshseth83, the ford explorer isn't even on the radar, when was the last time you saw an ad suggesting the explorer had off road ability? And the 22inch rims on a suv suggests that you have no intention of going off road. As far as the TRD package is concerned, lol stickers and shocks with progressive springs, and when I say shocks they are basically stock, have you seen the 2010 F-150's off road package? the F-150 Rapture? compare the shocks and then tell me the Toyota comes with an off road package.Off road packages should consist of more wheel travel and mechanical selectable lockers, and yes the FJ has a selectable locker and that is about all that is impressive about it, I have owned two toyota trucks and a 1993 4-runner, and they were all modified and they shone in some areas and sucked at some like hill climbs where power was required and deep snow didn't go too well either.Just because the UN chose the L/C doesn't mean that it has all the best off road attributes, it can be improved, have you seen the Movie From Dust To Glory? Robby Gordon makes a crack about the speed of Toyota trucks in the race, one limiting factor is limited wheel travel, and as far as I know there is only one suspension kit "Total Chaos" that makes this toy perform better by increasing wheel travel to 12ish inches as opposed to TRDs 7-8inches, TRD doesn't increase wheel travel, just ride height by an inch? Ride height doesn't increase wheel travel, who is the expert now, "you must not be serious" lol I won't belittle your limited knowledge of trucks...

Attempt to back up your logic as to why I was deboosted, share your infinite knowledge with us. If you think I was wrong anywhere point it out and we will debate it, that is what this is all about, emotion is ignorant, facts is where it is at.
