Leaked: Mazda MX-5 Superlight

Leaked: Mazda MX-5 Superlight
In order to celebrate its 20th anniversary of the popular small roadster, Mazda decided to build the MX-5 Superlight and to present it at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The MX-5 Superlight is actually a dream of Mazda’s design director Peter Birtwhistle to make a radical version of the small sports car.

The new car does not have a windscreen or a roof but promises to offer an impressive driving pleasure. The interior follows the “less is more” idea and offers only what the driver really needs: a steering wheel, two sport buckets, an iPod docking station and that’s it…. Under to hood the vehicle carries a 1.8-liter petrol engine capable to deliver 126 hp and 167 Nm of torque. With these numbers, the car sprints to 100 km/h in just 8.9 seconds. We don’t know exactly what Mazda tried with this concept but one thing is for sure: it is not a competitor for the spectacular Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss…!

The whole thing looks good except for that smiley face and the no windshield. Where we are you'll be eating bugs year round, and probably dangerously worst.

don't worry, with a 0-60 time of 8.9s and 126hp the bugs won't hit very hard ^^

So umm...that makes it actually slower than the current Miata. Brilliant concept!

The thing that is extra fail about this car is that at under 1000kg, and 126hp it still can't get 40mpg :P
