BREAKING: Lotus To Return To Formula 1 In 2010

The Malaysian-funded outfit have been awarded the final grid spot and join Campos GP, Manor and US F1 as one of four new teams for 2010.

The FIA has given current team BMW Sauber "14th place" for next season, meaning they are now first reserves.

However, motorsport's governing body says it will "consult urgently" with the 10 existing teams to expand the grid from 13 to 14 teams for 2010.

"The FIA believes that a good case can be made for expanding the grid to 14 teams," read an FIA statement released on Tuesday.

good, another manufacturer team with good money behind it. Not weak efforts from the 'new' teams that we aren't even sure have secure financial backing to stay in F1 for a prolonged period of time. But of course anything is possible, especially with BMW pulling the plug and getting bought out by a swiss financial company. I think they will be there next year though, and possibly see Renault leave.

Its not even the same Lotus. Why does everyone always say making a return. Its totally different. The only thing that remains is the name!!!

Its just like the Brabham team that considered entry into Formula 1. They sold the name, nothing else.

Happy for Lotus (British brand owned by Malaysians), but i hope Malaysians have thought naming their team as Lotus nicely as i think naming the team Proton (100% Malaysian brand) would have given their New brand more awareness and credibility. As thierryhenry said above, it's just the name, it's not the old Lotus and their people, it's almost starting from scratch, so again, name Proton would have fitted better.

Also I hope Renault cheaters are forced out of F1 and new owners of BMW get in. Renault last year in Singapore ordered their driver, Nelson Piquet to purposely crash to help there other driver, Fernando Alonso in the race, Fernando eventually won the race.
