FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Audi Poised To Bring A1 Stateside
Volkswagen AG’s Audi unit may sell the next version of its new A1 compact car in the U.S. to challenge Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s Mini, Handelsblatt reported today, citing Peter Schwarzenbauer, the head of sales.

The move, following the model’s introduction in Europe in mid-2010, would be part of Ingolstadt, Germany-based Audi’s plan to surpass BMW and Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz in all markets worldwide by 2015

sales numbers, maybe a few hundred total for S4 Avant & S5 sportback VS how many they expect to sell of these....maybe if their total sales improve they will bring more of the cars you want

This car is not quite stylish enough to compete against the Mini and style is a major concern for the Mini buyer. The Metroproject concept was stylish enough with its aluminum pillars, chicken-wire grill, and cute-but-mean face. They've watered this down to look like a, uh, small Audi.

It had better offer a diesel.

I agree, to a point. I'd really like to see an A1 TDI, but I wonder if Audi would consider it at too high a risk of canabalizing sales from the A3, or if they would be concerned about a the lower-cost A1 canabalizing sales from the Jetta TDI.

I'd look at a A1 TDI as my daily commuter, certainly.

That will be a nice option on the Audi showroom floor.
