Spy Shots: Lexus LF-A In Final Stages Of Development
The supercar that almost wasn’t, and still might not be, the Lexus LF-A, was recently spotted again in prototype form ahead of a rumored debut at next month's 2009 Tokyo Auto Show.

The LF-A has been spotted testing on a number of occasions, so it's well past the 'pure concept' stage, but its production future still remains murky at best. The Japanese company's investment in the LF-A earlier this year at the Milan Fashion Week, however, lends credence to the idea that it is in fact going to be built, and the continuous stream of prototypes tracking the 'Ring go a step further.

The LF-A's powertrain has previously been speculated as a 5.0-liter V-10 engine rated at over 500 horsepower, and the latest report says it will be over 550 horsepower and capable of a top speed of 218 mph. Limited production is also the name of the game, with only about 500 units expected unless demand proves high enough to support more, though it will cost more than $200,000. Worse still, only 350 of them will be made in left-hand-drive for worldwide consumption.

ok badgewhore and what was in april, when they attended the 4 hours DMV race of the nürburgring? fastest lap: 10:00:05 and finished as 22nd (but hey, at least they saw the finishing line).

slow and reliable? how about fast and reliable, how about fastest in it's class despite being before production? How about only 10 seconds off the pace of the leading RACE CARS. That's the highest SP9 class which is close to FIA GT3 spec. Get the facts straight and 22nd was overall, which still won it's SP8 class- close to production.

half the cars on the Nurburgring didn't even finish the race. I guess you didn't watch any of it or else you could have noticed that they did run the whole race. The reason they had to spend time in the pits was because of a race incident with slower cars. Oh, I'm sorry did I just ruin your post? At least it isn't overdone like the rest of the supercars coming out. The styling on some of the new cars like the Ferrari and McLaren and the new Aston Martin One-77 are really awkward. Lets wait till the finished product is out before we make judgements, shall we?

the GTR V-Spec can't do 218 mph and it relies on AWD for it's dynamics, this thing will be just as quick as the GTR but faster. The white is deceiving in size, but from the shots you can tell the front bumper and the front and rear lights will be different, overall it looks big but the same size as the 911

I look forward to seeing the LF-A [Supra] in production. It's too bad the NSX met the death blow...I'm old and able enough to be able to actually buy one now.

you don't pay attention either do you? said to debut at the tokyo motor show. That's this year buddy, not 2.5 years. But maybe time passes by slower for you. For everyone else that can actually READ, numerous articles say it will be introduced at the TMS.

Even if the LF-A is a solid performer, there will always be people for whom a lack of brand heritage seals the deal.

Let's be honest. No matter how nicely a Nissan GT-R or Lexus LF-A performs, it lacks to cache of a Porsche, Ferrari etc.

those cars had a start too you know. Where did Gumpert start? How about Koenigsegg? What about Lamborghini? Where did those companies start? Did they make a super car right off the bat? Not even porsche did that. But discredit Lexus for trying even though the thing aint even out. Haters...

Honda's first attempt (NSX) has been well received at the time. But back then, Honda was doing "Magic" in F1, they had a lot of cred.

It's not especially the case right now for Toyota, Supra's and Celica's hours of glory are long gone, and Toyota's venture in F1 is nothing less than desastrous considering the efforts and billions invested.

That may explain why people are not being convinced easily by this car.

disastrous? really? i wasn't aware scoring points was a disaster! I guess toyota should just give up instead of trying to win? Since it's a disaster. Unlike the teams that ARE winning, namely Red Bull Brawn Ferrari McLaren, Toyota is relatively new to F1, and entered the sport in the time of Ferrari and McLaren dominance. Even renault was an older team, which was Bennenton. And Red Bull, that was an older team too called Jaguar. Force India, they used to be Spyker F1, and before that Minardi. Brawn used to be Honda, which used to be BAR Honda. McLaren have been around since god know's when and Ferrari have been around even longer. Money can't buy wins. You have to have that experience, and Toyota are learning, they have numerous podiums, now its about time they go after a good driver and get the wins they were looking for. And this car here, the LF A is all their efforts, even some of the F1 team had say in the car so i doubt it'll dissapoint.
