Online Survey For The 2011 Chevy Volt Puts It At $32,000 After Tax Credit
It seems that $32-39K is the sweet spot for hybrids with Fisker chiming in stating it will produce a vehicle in that price range last week. Now, a recent survey making its way around to those interested in purchasing the 2011 Chevrolet Volt next year has revealed some pricing details on the new plug-in hybrid.
In the short 15-minute survey GM said: “Depending on content, the vehicle will effectively cost between $32,000 -$38,000 after a tax credit of $7,500.”
The survey also showed that an optional 220V charger will be sold between $800 and $1500. GM says that the cost of operating a Volt will be 2 cents per mile.
The 2011 Chevrolet Volt will carry a 16kWh electric-motor that runs on lithium-ion batteries. It will be able to travel 40 miles on battery-power alone. After battery power is depleted a small 1.4L 4-cylinder engine will kick in to provide a driving range of more than 300 miles.

still pricey, someone here will do the math to calculate how long it will take to make it cost effective, I would like it if it carried 5 people and had an all electric range of 100miles, then it would be cast effective for me.

What sedans or hybrids are cost effective outside of $5 and hire per gallon? Really? This will be the cheapest electric car on the market. The next will be the possibly the Fisker at $39+, but no one complains about the Tesla at more than $100K with cell phone battery tech. What else to do? Who will have a inexpensive vehicle outside the safety abandoned Chinese cars? Go for it.
