Toyota working on a ‘brother’ for the Lexus HS 250h
According to the latest reports from Japan’s Best Car Magazine, it appears that Toyota is currently working on a ‘brother’ for the Lexus HS 250h which is scheduled to debut in January.

The new car will have the same platform as the HS 250h, but regarding the design our sources confirm the new bumpers will be added as well as new headlights which will follow the same design line from the Prius. Regarding the technical part we don’t have any details yet, but we expect the new car to carry a 2.4-liter petrol engine as well as an electric motor.

Probably a Corolla hybrid since they're about the same size if I'm not mistaken.

This will replace the Camry hybrid and give you a nice car for less money like the Lexus should have been in the first place without all the markup.

Assume the "brother" is going to be a Toyota and not a Lexus (thought the article was unclear about this), the move will further make the HS look down market and not like a luxury car.

Refreshed HS250h with refreshed camry's 2.5 litre engine?

Anything Toyota makes will sell, people for some reason don't care if they make butt ugly cars.

Same has been said on GM and Ford in the eighties...

"new bumpers will be added as well as new headlights which will follow the same design line from the Prius"

and this will make it a new model? wtf?

So Toyota makes the Prius, then turns it into a more sedan shaped car for Lexus (HS250), and now is reverse engineering the Lexus HS250 to be a Prius that looks more like a sedan than the typical hybrid bubble shape?

LOL

it seems the marketing genuises at toyota/lexus has your head spinning to the point you just DON'T KNOW what's going on.

the toyota/lexus folks are so far ahead of everyone else, most don't understand what they're doing and what the heck is going on. until their fav brand gets WALLOPED in sales by the new toyota or lexus.

the lexus RX is a case in point. the first crossover car-based SUV, it has NEVER been bested by any of the johnny come lately copiers. (some, esp. the germans, may offer more power/sportiness; but most buyers in this segment don't really CARE about driving suvs pretending to be sports cars.)

the Venza was thought by critics to be pointless. but it re-introduced good looking wagons as an alternative to suvs.

and the Prius of course, is the most revolutionary development in the past decade, with legions of followers.

it only makes sense for toyota/lexus to offer more variants.

The HS is a mid-size. It is already based off the Toyota Avensis platform, which is essentially the Camry for the rest of the world, so this is not a Prius/Corolla-sized car. As far as the rebadging, people don't seem to have a problem with it when VW/Audi do it.

if this prius looking thing is going to be a lexus, is it going to be any better?

actually, the Prius has a better reliability record than even most Lexus models!

to a lesser degree, the same can be said for MOST toyota models, despite the constant braying of all those who cry about re-badging.

(granted, most problems with lexuses are centered on the fancy, hi-power AUDIO SYSTEMS.)

The Bionic car, eh? I'm glad the engineers and designers at Mercedes try to gain inspiration from nature. Actually, the Bionic car looks quite nice. Better than anything Toyota has made lately.

the ONLY resemblance to the prius is its having a fastback and Kamm tail. the blunt nose looks like the bmw isetta 'bubble car' in profile, nowhere as sleek as a prius.

if the MB people were inspired by nature, seems like they chose an UGLY FISH to copy, rather than a more sleek, streamlined critter.
