SPIED: Pre-production Audi Mule In Colorado
Ah, I love the smell of new Audi's in the morning.  Look at what we just got in.  A "spy" photo of what appears to be a pre-production Audi mule running around.  But what is it?

At first glance, it looks like a current A6 with wider fender flares.  But, is there more to it than just some fender flares? We happen to think so.  

There are several options: a current generation RS6 mule, a next generation A6 or a next generation RS4.  After some hemming and hawing we have determined it must be a next generation RS4.  Let me tell you why....

The wheelbase looks too long to me to be an A4. I vote next-gen A6.

Looks like it was taken on 70 West up into the mountains. Maybe the Genesee area just 10 miles West of Golden. Yeah, it's snowing at 7000 ft elevation today. Yuk. It would normally be 70 and sunny this time in September.

Hasn't there been some spy shots in the past of an A5 TDI with Arizona plates spotted in the US?

I've seen all kinds of stuff being tested here, with various camo. A Hyundai Genesis Coupe was the last thing I'd seen, summer of 2008. I remember seeing the Cayenne being tested here, the ZR1 (lightly camo'd Corvette perhaps 18 months ago), an Acura MDX probably 2+ years ago.

Given the size of the car and the fact that Audi does indeed have a test facility near Phoenix, I'd say it's either a test mule for the upcoming A6 platform or the new A7 which will be closely related but those guys can put the body of just about anything on a drive train mule. They had Tourag/Cayennes dressed up as MB MLs way back when.
