Latest GT-R vs ZR1 At Nurburgring Ends In Dead Heat! But Which Is The Better Sportscar?

Latest GT-R vs ZR1 At Nurburgring Ends In Dead Heat! But Which Is The Better Sportscar?
If you're a manufacturer of anything even remotely sporty these days you’re no doubt testing at the Nurburgring. Fine tuning and tweaking the performance because of just how well the Nurburgring represents a wide variety of driving conditions.

You wont be the only one testing your final product there however because, if it’s a real sports car, then Germany’s Sport Auto magazine will put it to their famous Supertest.

The Nissan GT-R had to do it and passed with flying colours setting a 7:38 laptime with editor Horst von Saurma (HvS) behind the wheel. Well now the Corvette ZR1’s time has come to be put to the same test.

Despite the weight and power advantage over the GT-R, the ZR1 only managed to equal the GT-R’s 7:38 lap time on the 13 mile long Nordschliefe circuit in the hands of the same test driver, HvS.

Makes sense... the official times of both vehicles are only 0.3s off of each other.

7:33 in a GT2 has got to be absolutely terrifying. Then again, if the Stig can crash the Koenigsegg, I guess I'd rather be in the GT2.

The 7:33 lap time of the GT2 was achieved on a different day, so it's not as good an indicator of relative performance as the lap times of the GT-R vs. ZR-1.

Something funny about Porsche(even though that'll be my next car).....

"So Sport Auto manages 7:38 but let’s revive a dead horse for some more beating… Porsche has claimed in the past that they could not do better than 7:54, despite proof from Nissan, and have recently backed themselves again and repeated the comment. Any comment from Porsche on this most recent test….. ?"

All these numbers mean squat. You know why? because each test is driven on a different day with different track conditions. Take into account some days the track might be greasy, wet or dry and each driver might have a good or bad day on the track.

Can't we all just agree that the cars on this list is elite and awesome cars? Cause we all know that if we had the choice we would like to have all those cars in our garage. The never ending debates will just run circles and get to no where.

Nice to see a same-day, same-driver 'Ring comparo, the end result of which indicates that the GT-R and the ZR-1 are equal given the same conditions, although the slower lap times do not invalidate the lap times achieved by the respective manufacturers, whose tests were done by different drivers under different track conditions.

I'd take a GT3 over either of these anyday.

In America at least, the GTR will run you about $20,000 less than the ZR1. That and you get a more-exclusive car that isn't already in the driveways of every white guy over the age of 40.

Yes but $20,000 won't cover the busted tranny!

More straight lines, ZR1 wins. More turns, GT-R wins.
As simple as that. Wet track also favours GT-R (thanks to AWD).

Both are awesome cars, no matter what the outcome is. I'd take both! ( If they were offered to me for free! :P )
