Spied: BMW M5 F10

Spied: BMW M5 F10
Spies have captured more images of the upcoming BMW M5 (F10) revealing further design details. Last week the M5 showed its front end design. Now these latest photos give a partial view of the rear taillights with an LED design which looks similar to the 5 Series GT. Previous prototypes incorporated a cylindrical taillight lense which looked like something out of Flash Gordon.

The four extended tailpipes are ever-present and confirm BMW's long-standing approach to all its M cars. Exterior mirrors are standard issue but will likely take on a different shape for the final production model. The other items appearing again are the power dome on the bonnet and cross-drilled brake disks all around.

It seems the M5 will lose its 373kW (507hp) naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 in favor of a lighter, more economical twin turbo V8 engine found in the X5 M and X6 M making 408kW (555hp). However, latest speculation places power output even higher - between 420kW (571hp) and 450kW (612hp). An 8-speed sequential gearbox has been mentioned as a possible powertrain mate.

Formula One derived Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) technology will make its way into the M5 not only as a way to boost power but also to make it eco-friendlier.

The M5 based on the next-generation 5 Series goes on sale in 2011.

I dont like the idea of v10 being taken out that engine was specially made for the M5. I guess using the same engine from other cars will do but it seems like something a japanese car maker would do not a german car maker. I really dont have much on this until final product is revealed next year

From the photos it looks like it will have a carbon fiber roof, and ceramic brakes. Cant wait till the specs are released.

I'll miss the sound of that V10, but that new V8 will probably make it faster.

V10 sounds great, I am an MB fan, but if the new engine is the V8 TT and have a lot of HP with real torque, I do not care about the V10, the new M5 will be a real contender in terms of power and torque for any AMG engine. (till today BMW does not have, anything to match AMG engines cause even with the heavy supertsutrctures of MB cars, AMG engines move those cars in a wonderful way). V8 TT will leave in the dust the weak V10, rest asured of that.

the New tt V8 in the X5 M is a fantastice engine that propels the 5200 lb truck to 60 in 4.2 seconds. The car is going to be around 1200 to 1300 lbs lighter, based on current figures which should drop the performance down to the 3.7 to 3.8 range. That is a very fast 4 door sedan.
