Vw expects worldwide car sales to remain at 2009 levels next year
Volkswagen AG predicts that global car markets will stagnate next year; hence it is calling its entire staff to push the company from its position as third-largest automaker and aim to surpass the leaders.

At a works council meeting at its Wolfsburg headquarters, Francisco Garcia Sanz said that in the current planning for 2010, the company is assuming a similar sales volume level for the overall passenger-car market as in 2009. In fact, group sales for the first six months of 2009 at Volkswagen, Europe’s biggest carmaker, trailed Toyota Motor Corp. and General Motors Co. by less than 500,000 cars.

VW could easily close the gap by out-executing GM in China. VW and Buick are market leaders there. The one who wins China, wins the world.

Just like Audi can close the gap by out-executing BMW and Mercedes-Benz in China. Audi is the market leader in China.
